View Full Version : Should C5 as a channel have a complete overhaul?

It seems like the unwanted child of a channel that no-one takes seriously. Instead of being FIVE instead of Channel 5 or whatever they're trying (and failing to do), I really think a complete brand overhaul would be great. New name, philosophy on what they show (they need to get rid of their obsession with celebrities in general), new look, font, etc.

C5 now regularly matches and beats C4, perceptions of it are slowly changing from the changes already made.

I think C5 is a really good channel. I would have never watched anything on it before

Channel 5 (or at least 5* and the like) have some really good american shows IIRC.

Yeah, they show The Mentalist which I accidentally started watching one day after BB ended, it's really good too

Once Upon A Time is on one of them as well, which is a really good show. I forget which channel, Sky+ takes care of it for me lol.

Its just your perception of Channel 5. Just because people think its failing doesnt mean it is.
They are probably on par with Channel 4 now and have some great shows and documentaries.
BB has helped it alot obviously.
Its only in the last year and a half that they relaunched ect so no they dont need to do anything.

5* started showing Malcolm In The Middle again and shows some other good old shows. It's a bit trashy at times but it's a pretty good brand overall

News from Dec 2012 showed that only Channel 5 and Channel 4 grew in % viewing since Dec 2011. All other channels fell, so I reckon CH5 is starting to find it's feet.

Who cares if it's ratings are increasing, it's still tacky and godawful. Look what they've done to Big Brother.

People forget that Channel 4 actually changed the editing format of BB from CBB7.
It wasnt Channel 5 who started doing recaps and putting music montages in episodes.

C5 took it to a new extreme and amped up the manipulation. But yeah, C4 were pricks for doing it in the first place.

No live feed, the terrible website, the terrible stage, the ridiculous dancers, ridiculous spin off show, the unimaginative eyes and graphics, bad advertising, OTT campness, flop twists, casting good looking young people only, two CBBs a year, the list goes on.

Judging by the fact that almost all you described there is present in the new AU version - I'd say its likely that it's Endemol's new desired direction.

Well for what it is it can still be good (CBB9 and BB13 are proof of that) just not amazing.

Isn't they way BB is produced completely down to how endemol decide to produce it? I thought all 5 done was buy the rights to air it. I'm not sure they have much say in the production beyond scheduling etc. It would probably be exactly the same on any other channel. I might be wrong though.
Anyway, in regards to C5 I think it's already made its overhaul and has succeeded with it. 4 years ago I would have taken 5 to be a joke, but now it is one of my fav channels. They have The Walking Dead and plenty of other big US dramas. They got Big Brother and soon American Idol will be on. They are a success story and will deffo be a channel to keep an eye on in the next few years.

However terrible it was, they only did that because it was the last series and they wanted it to be "bigger" than ever before.

No it's a lot better now. It attracts people who like the trashiness anyway and its increase in viewers isn't going to convince them to do anything about it.

You're comparing overnights to officials , from the first 4 highlight shows we're currently looking at an average of 2.53m, with the strongest competition it's had on C5, and that might well go up, we've not seen how the 10pm shows are going to do yet, there's clearly a loyal audience for this series judging by how consistently it's rated and survived so with the smaller competition they could do better than the 9pm ones.

Well if they are excluding plus 1 they are still higher than CBB11 overnights even when you include plus 1.

I thought the officials are tallied up at the end and printed on the right side of the screen and the over nights are the ones on the left?
Surely those are the overnights we should be comparing these to?

C5 always shows really good, classic films. More so than any other terrestrial channel which seems to either reserve them for Christmas or Bank Holidays, or shove them on at a really late hour. Recently I've seen Dirty Dancing, Calamity Janes, Seven Brides for the Seven Brothers, Beauty and the Beast, the original Superman movies and many others. I like the channel for that alone.
