Most of every country is a **** hole, British people think of the US as tourist catered New York and celebrity filled LA, a tiny chunk of a huge nation, most Americans don't live in New York apartments or on the Hollywood hills, they live in the largest chunk of it in the middle, just as most Brits don't live in Hamstead or stately homes in the country. We have Bradford, they have Detroit, the UK has Brixton, Spain has Benidorm. Same ****, different hole.
