There's no real details about it yet, but apparently it's finished filming and should be out this year. a couple of film buffs I know are really excited about it, like it could be an epic, or equally it could just be a massive fail

Astronauts attempt to return to earth after debris crashes into their space shuttle, leaving them drifting alone in space.

It doesn't seem like the kind of film that would do well with the more well known actors/actresses if that makes sense, makes it less believable

that is so ****ing strange i swear before now i had never even heard of this movie but earlier today for some reason i was thinking that astronauts stranded in space trying to get back to earth would make a really good movie

It looks all dramatic and big budget and it might have a really good storyline but whenever I've seen the trailer I've just got it into my head this film is going to be all mouth and no trousers...

Sandra Bullock does annoy me a bit from these trailers

She annoys me in most films... I don't think I've ever seen her in a film where I've thought "this is a good role and you are acting it well", she's forever appearing in B-list rom coms that are neither very romantic nor very funny; and whenever she's in a serious role she's just never been very good in her portrayal... I was a huge fan of Children of Men so I'd hope this would be similarly enthralling but you can only do so much as a director and other behind the camera roles to make a film great, you need a great cast to fully execute an idea... and I don't think Sandra Bullock is very good, and George Clooney is either a hit or miss, he's not really consistent.

it's getting incredible reviews... 10/10 basically everywhere. Currently holds 96/100 on Metacritic.

and I object to the Sandra bashing, she's pretty versatile and although she has an annoying voice, she's got the chops. The Blind Side proved that.

I hate it when people dissect a film as though it's supposed to be a documentary. I think artistic license applies to a lot of his nitpicks.

Although, the Bullock's hair thing could have been sorted if they'd just tied her hair into a bun or something. Simple. :D

Space drama Gravity leads the way at this year's Baftas, scoring 11 nominations including best film and best British film.

Its star Sandra Bullock is up for best actress, while Alfonso Cuaron is nominated for best director.

Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave had 10 nods, with five in the main categories including best film, best director and best actor for Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong'o also landed supporting nominations.

American Hustle equalled 12 Years a Slave's tally, with nominations in all the acting categories for its stars Amy Adams, Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence.

The 1970s drama, about two con artists who get entangled with the FBI, is also up for best film, with David O Russell nominated for best director and original screenplay.

Ejiofor, who was previously nominated for Bafta's Rising Star award in 2006, told the BBC working on 12 Years a Slave was "one of the greatest experiences I've had as an actor".

"To be received this way by Bafta is a really phenomenal moment," he added.

Ejiofor will compete for his award against Bale, Tom Hanks for Captain Phillips, Bruce Dern for Nebraska and Leonardo DiCaprio for The Wolf of Wall Street.

The best actress category will see Bullock challenge Adams, Cate Blanchett for Blue Jasmine, Emma Thompson for Saving Mr Banks and Dame Judi Dench for Philomena.

The nominations saw Dame Judi set a Bafta record, with her 15th acting nomination.

That puts her one ahead of Meryl Streep, who was overlooked in the best actress category for August: Osage County.

"I'm very proud to be associated with this film and I thank Bafta voters for the nomination. I'm honoured and thrilled to be in such fine company," Dame Judi said.

Other movies competing for best film include Captain Phillips and Philomena, while the latter is also nominated for best British film alongside Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Saving Mr Banks, The Selfish Giant and Rush.

Gravity, Saving Mr Banks and Rush all qualified for the British film category because they were either filmed in the UK, utilised British effects companies or employed other British talent, from writers to producers.

The rules are set out by the BFI's cultural test, which determines which films are eligible for UK tax relief.

Actress Helen McCrory, who announced the nominations, told the BBC it was important for Bafta to recognise British films separately.

"I think it's important we let the world know what we're doing here," she said.

MOST NOMINATED FILMS

Gravity - 11
American Hustle - 10
12 Years a Slave - 10
Captain Phillips - 9
Behind the Candelabra - 5
Saving Mr Banks - 5

"We might have American actors in those leads, but this is British money, this is British craftsmanship and this is British investment. We should be incredibly proud and celebrate that."

She also praised Ejiofor, calling him a "superb actor".

"There's a reason people rise within their professions, it's not just talent and Chiwetel has the whole package - he's intelligent, he's eloquent and he's talented."

The best director category mirrored that of the Directors Guild of America - which announced its film nominations on Tuesday. Both bodies shortlisted McQueen, Cuaron and Russell alongside Paul Greengrass for Captain Phillips and Martin Scorsese for The Wolf of Wall Street.

BBC film critic Mark Kermode said although Gravity leads the nominations, his money was on 12 Years a Slave winning best film.

"It's an extraordinary film... it is very, very powerful," he said. "A wonderful leading performance from Chiwetel Ejiofor, who is absolutely fantastic in that central role.

"It's one of those films - it has momentum, it has public support and critical support. I would be very surprised if it doesn't come away from the awards ceremonies with several winners."

Notable snubs in the acting categories included Robert Redford for sea drama All is Lost and Matthew McConaughey for Dallas Buyers Club - both of whom have been tipped for Oscar consideration this year.

British actor Idris Elba was also left off the shortlist for his portrayal of Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

Monday saw Bafta announce the five young actors nominated for this year's Rising Star award.

12 Years a Slave actress Nyong'o will compete against Blue is the Warmest Colour star Lea Seydoux and Sunshine on Leith's George MacKay.

Will Poulter from We're the Millers and Kill Your Darlings actor Dane DeHaan complete the list.

Winners will be announced at a ceremony at London's Royal Opera House on 16 February.

I figured a film with two characters set in outer space wouldn't be the most gripping story  ah well, I guess it's another film I've missed the boat for, missed out on everyone going mad for Avatar as well...

It was the first film I've seen in 3D since it's come back on scene, so i can't compare it to other films in 3D, but I thought it was visually stunning and felt as if I was there with them, never seen anything like it.

Gravity is amazing and a must see in 3D while it's still in the cinemas (I guess it is)...but as far as storyline and acting goes..I think it's a bit weak

You just need to search for all the things wrong with the film scientifically and then you see it in a new light

I gave it a 9/10 still

I loved Avatar and it seems to be a bit of an unpopular opinion liking it, I just lost myself in it to be honest..

BAFTAs aren't just for British films, they have separate categories for the British ones. They just tend to go a bit crazy for them.

Yep I'll have to get around to seeing Gravity, hopefully there is still somewhere you can see it in 3D, but if not I guess 2D it is

And I thought Avatar was a pretty popular film, or maybe that's just with the critics. I loved it though even in 2D

Most of the special effects were created in Britain, by British artists from a British company. A lot of scenes were also shot in the Shepperton Studios in Surrey.

And I still don't know how to really feel about it.

The premise of a "medical engineer and an astronaut work together to survive after a catastrophe destroys their shuttle and leaves them adrift in orbit" is a decent premise for me personally, the Film starts off promising (even if George Clooney comes across as smug, and Sandra Bullock's character is a Medical Engineer that doesn't know how to do anything) but their personalities and dynamic could've been more interesting if they hadn't have split them up from the middle of the Film onwards, and the Film just had an issue of sending Sandra Bullock's character for point A to point B and then back again, the Film didn't grow past it's premise which essentially also hit Interstellar. (On top of many other flaws for that Film)

This Film did have some okay Thriller/Suspense moments though, especially near the beginning of the Film, but essentially I think that a bigger cast would've helped push this Film forward with more storylines which was needed imo.

The Film had potential but didn't quite live up to what it could've done, especially considering the wonderful visual that they clearly spent a lot of money on to make.

If I had to give out a score then I'm gonna do it in an IMDB sort of way and score it a 7.1/10 combining entertainment, directing, visual, acting, storylines, and characters together.

I just watched this and thought pretty good. Good spectacle and I liked how realistic the physics in space was.

The downsides were some of the dialogue, George Clooney being kind of annoying and that thing where if a characters is on their own they have to monologue their thoughts and explain what is happening. I thought the score got in the way sometimes and would have preferred to hear the silence of space.

This Honest Trailer pretty much nails it.

It was pretty good to watch in the cinema in 3D because it looked great but I'd imagine it would have been pretty dull otherwise
