Amy Winehouse is up for a posthumous Brit award after being nominated in the best British female category.

The late singer, who died 17 months ago as the result of a drinking binge, previously took the title in 2007 following the release of her Back To Black album.

She is eligible for a nomination as a result of the release of her Lioness: Hidden Treasures album and is understood to be the first artist to be included posthumously.

I would be very surprised if best female was not awarded to Amy Winehouse.

They might not do since it's not a public vote. The only Brit Awards Take That ever won, besides the one they got two years ago, were all public voted.

Shaun
11-01-2013, 01:54 AM
I think the only fan-voted category is the Best Single, and even then the nominees are just the top-selling songs of the year

Black Dagger
11-01-2013, 01:23 PM
I think breakthrough was definitely viewer voted a few years ago, I remember getting mad at JLS beating Friendly Fires because their fans were voting like every 20 seconds :idc:

Oh wait. It was international breakthrough in 2011 for some reason. Bieber won it.

They've done ridiculously well and it's not just based on public perception.

Black Dagger

Yeah best group will either go to 1D or Mumford.

I didn't realise how popular Mumford were in the US until they got the most Grammy noms.

Brother Leon
11-01-2013, 01:34 PM
Why shouldn't 1D win though?

They've had as good a year as anyone. The nominations in the first place usually go to people who done well rather than "critically acclaimed" music, so no point of turning our noses at them winning.

Marc
11-01-2013, 01:36 PM
Exactly, I dislike them and I don't want to listen to their music but give credit to where it's due in some respect, they've become something humongous and they deserve some awards for it.

Me. I Am Salman
11-01-2013, 02:01 PM
no they don't deserve to win because the majority of their success is down to their "looks"

There are very few superstars who are a success due to their actual talent though. Even ones who may be talented blew up due to other reasons. Nothing new.

Well it's only the case with One Direction on that list so they better not win it.

Shaun

1D's success wasn't as strong as Mumford's though... Mumford had the best-selling album in the US (until Taylor came along :p)

British Female - Paloma Faith (will obviously be Sande though)

British Breakthrough - Jessie Ware (Ora will though)

British Group - Muse (just not 1D so help me god...)

British Live Act - Rolling Stones (Coldplay have flashy wristbands... :bored:)

International Female - Alicia Keys (If Ri gets it again I'm putting kebab skewers through my ear drums)

International Male - Frank Ocean (Gotye? Pfft...)

International Group - The Black Keys (The Script? International? :joker:)

British Producer - Paul Hepworth (think he did something with Adele?)

MasterCard British Album - Fall To Grace (again we all know who's getting it)

no I was just confused by them emailing me LOL
I've heard the Mercury and the Polydor ones, and liked all of the Polydor ones  especially Imagine Dragons and Rhye. Haven't heard the Deccas or Islands yet.

Mrluvaluva
16-01-2013, 01:50 AM
The Island one is good too. The Polydor one will not all download properly for me. Ellie Goulding and a couple of the others will not play. I am not bothering with the Decca one.

it's just occurred to me there's no 'Outstanding Contribution to British Music' award this year...

and the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Kate Bush, the Clash, the Cure, Depeche Mode, Joy Division, New Order, Radiohead, Pink Floyd and the Smiths still haven't had an inauguration in that...

and the Spice Girls have...
