as host

not as a host but then he's reading from an autocue so the jokes aren't his. I always find him funny when he's being himself though on BOTS or wherever. Also, he was absolutely hilarious as a HM, especially in BB2

Yes I do at times.

Is he supposed to be particularly funny as the host of the show?

Well he does attempt humour a lot. His style of hosting is based on humour so how good a host he is probably relates to whether or not he is funny.

As Niamh said, this is a heavily scripted show though. The live audience are quite a distance from him and all making a noise cheering for their favourites or booing so they won't react to his jokes.

he's reading from an auto cue though so I don't get your reasoning here, I find him very funny when he's speaking as himself so he's obviously a whole lot funnier than whoever writes his lines ;)

What about the jokes he makes when interviewing evictees. Is that scripted too or are those jokes his own?

HE was funny as a HM but not as a host. For those who support him as host and say he's only reading from autocue - He's hardly the most professional and polished host - I still find it amazing that after two years he still struggles to end interviews properley and fumbles counting down into breaks so exactly why is he there if not for his humour? Good hosts are pretty easy to find and he's certainly not one of the better ones.

Lets face it, they made a mistake hiring him. Emma, Alice or Jamie East would be a much better host even Rylan would probably bring more to the job than BRian. He's way overachieved in his presenting career

If they made a mistake why is he now on his second contract? Why did they not give Emma the job when they had the choice between them? Brian is fine, although I do think it's a shame he doesn't have the chance in this job to show how funny he can be. He was hilarious on Fake Reaction last night.

Only C5 know why he's on his 2nd contract. It baffles me. I wont even mention the question he asked Frankie on Wednesday that he answered for him. I nearly fell off the chair laughing at that one. Do people actually think he is one of the best presenters around? Really? based on what? his amatuerish style, his inablility to pick up on points and ask follow up questions, his constant failure to end interviews on time. He's not very good when compared to other presenters who are slick, who can think on their feet, who can be humorous and probing.

I agree he isn't funny when presenting, buy he is when on BOTS :D

Give him BOTS, Emma's such a lightweight.
Then new presenter with more presence and substance for the live show.

This and 'I love it!' every two minutes

I more laugh at the things he says which aren't meant to be a joke when he is presenting... But sometimes he does come out with some cringey yet funny stuff like in BB13 when Lauren was evicted she said;

'You can't fancy one of the lads' to which he replied 'You can...'

He's an awful host, very irksome. Emma should be the main host really.

I said Emma would be better, but I'm retracting that - she's just too annoyingly air-headed ... which is worse even, than being indifferent.

Agreed he is an annoying knob, and I'd love to see more of Emma as a main host I'm all for that, as long as she can stop being biased.

And they should give BBBOTS to Caroline Flack she was great when she did it.

He was funny in Big Brother, but not as the host. It's all cue cards etc.

Not funny at all, he just doesn't seem natural like Davina did, didn't even seem like she was reading an autocue

Patrick
25-01-2013, 03:54 PM
I can't vote on that. Because as a housemate? He's one of the most funny men alive. I'm sorry but in UBB, I found myself laughing constantly at him on the live feed.

As a host? He makes me want to kill myself, painfully unfunny and words can't describe how much I hate the morons who write his script.

sometimes. as a host it doesn't come across as very natural though unlike davina.

I don't suppose this will mean much to most of you but his style is very comparable to Andrew Neil (This Week BBC2 Thursday ).
Both struggle to be funny but fail even with scripted material; some people just are funny without trying, others just cannot do it.
These two are in the latter group.

i like him, but he isnt funny he camps it up too much for me. yes your gay we get it yes you won bb we get it. its not funny but he uses both things far too much.
he is much better on bbots . and a better interviewer than divina

shame we have to put up with his dribble all might and adverts and hardly any footage then rushed interviews. wish they'd just show the normal show then do the live thing after in one go properly

He isn't unwatchable but I never find myself caring what he says. I always used to enjoy Davina's comments and excitement.

My biggest dislike of Brian is he doesn't even try and control the crowd, I know he doesn't have much control over them but Davina seemed to keep them generally sweet and if a housemate got boos and seemed effected she would make the hm aware it was panto and stay with them. Brian doesn't seem to care, he's more interested in his next line.

I find him quite funny, when presenting though he has a schedule and likely lines to follow as others have said so he is tied as to his humour there.

On bbbots he is often hilarious,as he is too when guesting on other shows.
I still rate him highly as presenter of BB and anyway I really like the guy anyway. He's one of the good ones.
