Video Ad on there
[The advertising watchdog has cleared Asda's
festive TV campaign featuring an exhausted mother
doing all the work to make Christmas a success,
despite more than 600 complaints it was offensive and sexist.]

Isn't it usually the case though, that it's the women that want everything to be just perfect for Christmas, and that men would quite happily buy and wrap everything at the last minute? I mean, when you walk around the shops at Christmas, it's not exactly packed with men fiddling around with all the fripperies that have become essential items at Christmas because it's women who buy them. When was the last time a straight man bought a packet of glittery table confetti, or a set of matching Christmas napkin rings?

Yeah me too... did all my shopping online. Can't stand schlepping round the shops with the parking and the bags and the crowds... but you know where I was going with that, right? Mostly, it's women buying all the crap, including trolleys full of food, half of which will end up in the bin.

Wow how sexist.
the facts prove it. men also die younger in every nation on earth (by around 4 years on average) and commit suicide at 3 to 4 times the rate. they also lose over 80% of divorce cases and custody battles. It is sexist, against men.

Yeah, we're pretty much the same, although he probably does more of the house stuff than me as he's at home more because he's on call for work rather than being at work, if you know what I mean. That's how it is now, when the kids were younger he used to work on building sites and I worked part time so I did more around the house then. We just adapt as our situation changes

how many female plumbers, electricians, handmen, roadsweepers, bricklayers, tarmackers, coal miners, railway bridge builders, do you know? thats right hardly any. no one is stopping women from working towards doing these jobs, they simply dont bother. ask yourself why are the majority of those in the boardrooms men? because they work their whole lives to get there. that means working harder and longer and better. They also die younger, yet women have the spending power and the choices. what choices do men have? none. they must work till theyre 65 or they will be cast aside.
yes we can create artificial opportunities for women but having women only shortlists, but there is no short cut to the top or even to become a specialist or to run a successful business.
poinsonous ads like this are an insult to all men.
how would women like it if we ran an ad where the men do all the work all year every year and earned all the money and the women were seen to just going out and wasting it?
show me the female brunel, michaelangelo, howard hughes, albert einstein, alexander graham bell, armytage shanks, show me the line of female plumbers and sparkies? when that day comes I will accept women work as hard, until that day, lets all just lie about it to keep the peace. got to go know Ive got to get back to work to pay for my family like all working men

..I think sexism works both ways though...if trades were promoted more to females and advertised with females doing them then I think it would make others want to also...it’s the same really as you being offended at the Asda advert, when you feel males are discriminated against...the trades you mention have been in the past ‘traditionally male’ ...and females should be encouraged more, otherwise sexist attitudes will always exist....

there are zillions of male bashing adverts , shows etc no female bashing. is become 100% one sided and its plain wrong. its also very disappojnting that a lot of women like niahm here refuse to look at the male viewpoint at all. shes happy though to ring men in emergencies to fix her roof, her water pipes, her electrics, her sky dish, or for a fireman to carry her from a buring building, but shes quite happy to sit back and see all men portrayed as lazy sexist and uncaring on mainstream media? its disgusting

picky is fair enough. I suppose we all have our bugbears and things that upset some more than others. I get really very upset about these type of things as I know ultimately whilst it appears like a trivial ad this type of thing really does affect society as it adds to the unfair narrative than men are lazy useless uncaring and always there for a cheap potshot. in the end this pack of lies adds up to a society which sees men as bad and women as always th einnocent victims.when the reality is nothing like as black or white. end result is usually men lose custody of their children, lose their homes in dovorce cases and end up in a one bedroom flat paying for towards their children and ex wives and living a paltry existence. makes men want to give up altogether on relationships no wonder male suicides are so unbelievably high, and still as we see on this website nobody cares

...It’s not that nobody cares truth ...in some things males do have a pretty rough time and are much less often the custodial parent in divorce situations, which is very heartbreaking for them..and yes the financial strain as well...but females also have hardships ..single parenting isn’t easy and trying to afford childcare so they can work and provide something for their children..some females work more than one job to do that...I don’t think there are any winners in the breakdown of a relationship....and it certainly isn’t about the women ‘out to get’ the men....

Of course I agree , however all the issues youve brought up about female hardships are brought up in the mainstream every minute every hour every day...the male ones are simply ignored. the number of support agencies for women outnumber mens by over 30 to 1. there is no battle of the sexes, there is a battle between rich and poor howver and thats been running since man first walked on the planet. the rich have always divided and conquered the working classes by setting them against each other. once it was done with land and money and resources. now its done with the so called battle of the sexes. insurnace companies are now allowed to sell private information to legal firms who in turn spam housewives and promote the fact they will get them a profitable divorce. this is the way of the world nowadays. its sick.
as for these men who have supposedly ruled the world, heres the life expectancy charts of all men and women in the US the past 100 years. the gap between the 2 has grown hugely

you can bet though working class men and women (men especially died much younger than the overall average as the rich lasted way longer such as queen victoria who reach the enormous age of 81 in 1901
the vast majority of men eigher fought in horrendous world wars, those who survived usually suffered tb also pneumonia , even disease like black water fever and lepracy....etc there was of course no healthcare no national insurance no compensation no welfare state ,no taxes at all on the rich until A MAN callled lloyd george introduced them.
working class men and women had it very very hard, much harder than the rich. also working class men didnt have the voting right either, everyone had to vote for the land owner, so thats another lie by the radical feminists..I say bury the lies of radical feminism who take all of history out of context as if all men hate all women and they all opporessed all women, utter utter poisonous lies.
these working class people lived lives so tough we couldnt possibly imagine. men were conscripted to battle endless unwinnable wars to build empires for the rich....the women were left at home with the kids to fend for themselves....everyone had it hard beyond words....
even smaller matters such as the disgusting titanic voyage saw the working men corrupted exploited and drowned like rats by the rich whose entire fault it was the ship sank wimply to serve their egos. the majority of men of course gave their life jackets to the women and children, Out of the 527 adult women that where passengers and crew on board, 418 survived. Out of the 1,690 adult male passengers and crew on board, only 338 survived.
as for world war 2, between 62 and 78 million died in world war 2, the vast majority were men (over 60 million working class men sacrificed for the what? an even larger majority were working class men.(416000 male american soldiers died, compared to 16 women in total) working class men have been exploited throughout history , now they are even having their history stolen from them. I weep for my grandfather and his forefathers because I know they were great great men. I have their diaries still and I know how they suffered for their families and for this God damned empire

this has been going on for decades now...
Men Behaving Sadly
The Age - Wednesday, 8th December 1999
Why does nobody care about men killing themselves? There's immense public concern about youth suicide. Australia has spent more than $31million over the past four years to try to reduce our high suicide rates among the young. There's much angst about Aboriginal deaths in custody, and even gay youths are finally being acknowledged as a group at risk. But when it comes to blokes, ordinary adult men killing themselves in ever-increasing numbers, there's no interest.
Our health departments have spent the past few years studiously ignoring the growing evidence that adult men aged 25-44 are most at risk - as confirmed by figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics last week. In 1998, men in this age group had the highest suicide rate of all Australians, followed by men aged 15-24. Elderly men, 75 and over, who traditionally have the highest rate, in that year fell into third place.
Males are four times more likely than females to take their own lives.
While there's good reason for concern over the tripling of youth suicide rates over the past 30 years, in the past decade the youth rate has virtually levelled off while suicide rates for males aged 25-44 continue to rise. In 1990 the rate for this latter group was 27 per 100,000. In 1998 it hit 37.
Men's health activists and suicide researchers have long been trying to convince health authorities that blokes are in trouble. A recent Australian Medical Journal article by Dr Chris Cantor from the Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention at Griffith University made a strong case that these high-risk men should be targeted by suicide-prevention policies.
But so far there's little sign that anyone is listening. Early this year, the Health Minister, Michael Wooldridge, sought community reaction to a draft national action plan for suicide prevention. All the politically sensitive groups rated a mention - young people, gays, Aborigines - but not a word on programs targeting men, let alone the vulnerable 25-44 group.
Men's health initiatives announced recently by the federal Department of Health and Aged Care fail to include any proposals to deal with this issue. In fact, there is active resistance among health policy bureaucrats to funding any research that identifies suicide as a "male" issue. The standard line is that targeting male suicide is inappropriate because females attempt suicide even more often than males. The fact that men are four times more likely to make a proper job of it is dismissed as irrelevant.

WRONG, FEMINISTS WILL COMPLAIN ABOUT ANYTHING, they hAave no sense of humour about these things, men have always laughed it off until now, because people are starting to take this nonsense seriously, so MEN HAVE DECIDED to start doing the same to ensure there is actually a tiny bit of equality.

What an overreaction... I would have thought that the majority of people who complained about this would be men!
They are the ones portrayed as feckless lumps who arn't capable of organising a meal...
To most of the men I know this is really offensive, but then I don't associate with anyone with atypical 1950's values as to patriarchy so...

encouraged more? why dont they get off their backsides and do it like men do?
there are zillions of male bashing adverts , shows etc no female bashing. is become 100% one sided and its plain wrong. its also very disappojnting that a lot of women like niahm here refuse to look at the male viewpoint at all. shes happy though to ring men in emergencies to fix her roof, her water pipes, her electrics, her sky dish, or for a fireman to carry her from a buring building, but shes quite happy to sit back and see all men portrayed as lazy sexist and uncaring on mainstream media? its disgusting
Excuse me? How am I happy to let men be portrayed as lazy? I actually disagreed with the ad, if you'd bothered to read any of my posts. And for your information my husband is a fireman and in his station 1/3 of the firefighters are female.
