View Full Version : How I Met Your Mother - To Finally Reveal Mother
Iceman
30-01-2013, 10:47 PM
How I Met Your Mother has been renewed for a ninth and final season.
CBS has confirmed recent speculation that the Neil Patrick Harris series will be back in the autumn to bid farewell to its all-star cast, although the exact episode order has not yet been announced.
How I Met Your Mother also appears to be nearing the reveal of the mother of Ted's (Josh Radnor) children, which has been a long-running mystery throughout the course of the show.
CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler said of the renewal: "Through eight years, How I Met Your Mother has mastered the art of leading-edge comedy, emotional water-cooler moments and pop culture catchphrases.
"We are excited... to tell the final chapter and reveal television's most mysterious mother to some of TV's most passionate fans."
2 years too late. :bored:

This has been on for eight years?
Must happen at the end of this season because we know he meets her at Barney and Robin's wedding :suspect: surprised they are bothering with another season really, the show's definitely losing steam and had heard Jason Segel wasn't keen on doing another one

I omitted the bit about Jason Segal returning because I thought people knew... but yeah he's back.

I don't think it was about the mother, I think it was about 5 people.
I enjoyed it outside of The Mother Dying but in the end everyone did end up happy in my opinion.

Ted has to be the worst lead in TV history.
I've only seen the show in a random order when E4 put double bills on, but my goodness is he whiny and self centred and cheesy and just bloody awful.
I hated Jack in Lost but Ted Mosby is 100 times worse.

one of the best things about the show was the fact that from the very first episode when he called robin, aunt robin, it seemed to be one of the few shows that didn't go down the predictable road but nawwwh **** that. barney and robin forever </3

Other things that happened
Robin and Barney got a divorce shortly after getting married.
in 2018. Marshall announces his canidacy for the Ny State supreme court. The Mother and Ted get married as well on the day Marshall announces it. Then Lilly and Marshall learn they're going to have a third kid. They decide to move out of the apartment because there's no more room. But before they do, they have one more Halloween party. The Whole Group attends. Robin shows up for a little bit and decides to leave the group because she realizes she should've been with Ted and she can't look at Barney and his bachelor lifestyle.
Barney around 2022 tries the perfect month (in reference to the perfect week) and the last one he bangs gets pregnant. It's a baby girl.
After Barney does become a father, he stops his bachelor lifestyle.
Mother becomes ill. Turns out she died in 2024. There's no tragic scene in that regard other than he and Ted in the hospital.
In the year 2030, the kids says "That wasn't really a story about our mother, You're suppresing your feelings about Aunt Robin." and they suggest that Ted should get back with Robin. Saying it's been Six years since Mother died, she wouldnt mind.
So Ted makes his way towards Robin's apartment. He buzzed Robin's apartment, She looks out her apartment window and it's Ted with the Blue Horn from the pilot. It ends right there.
The mother's name in the finale is revealed to be Tracey as well.

It's just annoying, because you could of just predicted this in the first season and the whole thing been done in 2/3 seasons max. I liked ending it on a throwback to the pilot, but that is about it tbh.

In that sense it did exactly what Lost did. They had quite an obvious premise, which they swore blind it wasn't. They had to in order to stretch the show out.
HIMYM - Robin's not the mother.
Lost - The island isn't purgatory/They're not dead.
But then when the finale rolls around, the endings rely on circling back to those obvious conclusions, but tweaked slightly to make it look like they weren't lying when they denied it.
HIMYM - Robin and Ted together, story about Robin but she's not the "mother".
Lost - They weren't all dead/all in purgatory, but they are now.

Gonna put in spoiler brackets because it hasnt aired in the uk yet
Im not angry more disapointed at the way it played out. I knew the mom would die going from that scene about not being there for your daughters wedding a few weeks ago. If that happened i kinda thought Ted/Robin would get back together. I guess im more angry at the kids reactions i mean its 6 years but theres no need to say oh its ok obvously you 2 love one another bla bla bla. Also to the people who watched 9 years I only started at the start of s8 so 2 seasons.

Jesus christ I'm actually so angry at that
9 ****ing years we've had of Ted and Robin when we all knew she wasn't the mother and this last season was supposed to be about drawing a line under the whole thing. Why the hell do they dedicate a whole season to Barney and Robin's wedding weekend and then twenty minutes into the last episode it's like "oh yeah we got divorced btw lol". ffs.
One of the only good things about this last season is that the mother has actually been great and her and Ted together works, that's supposed to be what the whole show was leading up to it but now it turns out she's not that important and the kids aren't even that bothered about the whole story of how Ted met her
It's just a joke, this last season has been so bad it's almost killed the show but if they ended it well they could have saved it, but now they've just gone and ruined the whole series never mind just the season
Well said these people:
This was horrible. This ignored everything that had happened between Ted and Robin, between Robin and Barney, between Ted and Barney and, especially, between Ted Evelyn Mosby and Tracy McConnell, all because once upon a time, this is what Bays and Thomas wanted to do.
...
If "HIMYM" hadn't been as great as it was in its early days, or as great as it could even be from time to time more recently, I wouldn't care this much. I wouldn't be as angry as I am. But there kept being moments in this final season, and throughout this final episode, that reminded me of what the show is capable of, and it only filled me with more despair that we were clearly heading towards the ending I feared was coming ever since "Vesuvius" aired. How, I wondered, could the same two men who wrote that great scene where Barney met his daughter for the first time be so tin-eared in this other area? How could the same writers who absolutely, 100% nailed the moment when Ted and Tracy finally meet on the train platform not realize that they had already undermined it by spending so much of the finale on the dissolution of Robin's marriage and her leftover feelings for Ted? How could they not see the happy, satisfying ending that was staring them right in the face, and instead do... this?

Ted and Robin ended. This was established in the first episode. The writers spent NINE seasons convincing us that the relationship we wanted to believe in wasn’t right, wasn’t meant to be. And now, after finally making sense of everything for us, they throw everything away, and give us Robin and Ted again.
Robin wasn’t right for Ted. She wasn’t his first choice, and he wasn’t hers. What’s the lesson here? Clearly, it’s not fate, hopeless romance, or the whole “The One” thing. Ted didn’t need to marry the Mother to realize he wanted to be with Robin. Robin had seasons to realize that Barney wasn’t right for her. But she didn’t. Is that the lesson? That people are too stupid to see what’s right?
Having been married to The Mother, Ted wouldn’t have wanted to get back with Robin. He – and we – spent nine seasons realizing they’re not meant to be. Once back with her, he wouldn’t be able to take her blossoming career willed with constant travel. Robin was never The Mother that Ted needed and wanted in his life.
