The last surviving member of The Andrews Sisters - the popular singing trio of the 1940s and 1950s - has died in California at the age of 94.

Patty Andrews's spokesman, Alan Eichler, said she died from natural causes at her Los Angeles home.

Patty was the youngest of the sisters whose hits included Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B.

The Andrews Sisters sold more than 75 million records and entertained World War II troops in Africa and Europe.

The sisters specialised in swing and played with some of the top band leaders of the era, including Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey.

They also appeared in 16 films, including alongside Bud Abbott and Lou Costello in Buck Privates and with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby in Road to Rio.

The last of the LEGENDARY Andrews Sisters, the innovative trio which shook the musical world of the 1930's and which went on to become one of the most famous and succesful popular entertainers acts of the 1940's.

RIP

Exactly how obscure does someone have to be before we don't trip over ourselves to grieve?

Untrue ..... :nono:

From the 1950's, there were, however, splits, disagreements and disputes ..... but they were family, so what's new .....

Actually... I have quite a weakness for the music of WW2. I was sad to hear this today.

Well one of them thought they were bigger than the group and went solo for a bit. And she did get a number 1 to be fair. I was listening about it on BBC World Service last night and it was late so the details are a little hazy lol

Yeah, Patty had a Top Twenty hit, "Too Young" in 1951 .....

The Sisters had 113 Billboard hits, 46 reaching the Top 10 ...... beats everybody before or since, I believe ..... :idc:

I see. I wanted to make sure you actually were making the wild, generalising slur that I thought you were.

I'm not a "biddy", I like music from that era. I like music from all eras... chart stuff... 30 years ago... 70 years ago... 300 years ago...

They were long before my time but anybody who has an interest in popular music should have heard of the Andrews Sisters, if only because of more recent artistes who have been influenced by them, including Bette Midler, the Pointer Sisters, Manhattan Transfer, Barry Manilow and Christina Aguilera.
