"We’re going to get in trouble again": Russell Brand rant about Sachsgate cut from Jonathan Ross chat show
Insiders at the broadcaster say large parts of the interview will now be left on the cutting room floor as bosses frantically edit the show
Kooky prankster Russell Brand has re-ignited the “Sachsgate scandal” after claiming that Jonathan Ross “didn’t give a monkey’s” about the row.
The controversial duo were reunited for the first time since the incident in 2008 as the scraggly-haired comic appeared as a guest on Wossy’s ITV1 chat show.
Speaking at Wednesday’s filming, the pair discussed the prank calls which saw Ross suspended and Brand sacked by the BBC.
During the interview, Brand blurted: “I remember you said you didn’t give a monkey’s.
“You said you’d do it again, let’s call up other treasures of British comedy.
"Let’s find the surviving Pythons and bang on their doors and go, ‘Oh, I touched your daughter’s leg’.”
Insiders at the broadcaster say large parts of the interview will now be left on the cutting room floor as bosses frantically edit the show in time for Saturday night’s airing.
Red-faced Ross tried to smooth over the issue before starting their interview, but was left squirming as Brand repeatedly made comments about the controversial incident.
Ross moaned: “You left the country and left me to deal with it. We’re going to get in trouble again.”
The pair were the subject of more than 40,000 complaints to the BBC after making prank calls to the mobile phone of Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs, with Ross telling the star Brand had had sex with his granddaughter Georgina Baillie.
The pre-recorded radio show was aired and the BBC later sacked Brand and suspended Ross for three months, admitting the remarks were “grossly offensive” and a “serious breach of editorial standards”.
The 52-year-old chat-show host said on Wednesday: “We both regret the furore we both caused and the hurt to Mr Sachs and his family.”
But Brand, 37, went on to say he wouldn’t be inviting Ross to appear at an upcoming Comic Relief benefit he is hosting, jibing: “You’re not invited, you can’t be trusted.
“What are you going to do? Swagger around the stage with your k**b out and claim to have had it off with everyone’s granddaughters?”
