He's only done it now becasue he realises the evidence is likely strong against him and by pleading guilty now, he will get a more lenient sentence also he has saved court time as to his part of the case.
He will have had the audacity to likely think that sometime just before the trial the charges may have been dropped.
Total hypocrite,in the 2010 election he had leaflets stating he was a happily married family man, despite seeing someone else at the time then splitting from his wife afterwards. People like him make me sick.

I've just read the above texts and cannot understand how this man was quite prepared to risk everything and I mean everything as the relationship with his son is clearly in grave danger of being irreparably damaged over this. He risked sending his wife to jail and clearly himself and the destruction of his political career and reputation.
And for what 3 lousy points on his licence and a short term ban...
Is this Man fit for office or to be a politician if he cannot work out the best solution to fairly simple moral dilemmas choosing rather to destroy himself and his family over a simple speeding ticket...??

Vicky Pryce 'wanted revenge' over Chris Huhne's affair
http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/65716000/jpg/_65716063_017130355.jpg
Chris Huhne's former wife passed the story about his speeding offence to the press in revenge for his extra-marital affair, Southwark Crown Court heard.
Prosecutors say Vicky Pryce, 60, took speeding points for Huhne a decade ago.
The jury was read an email from 2011 - after she found out about Huhne's affair - in which Ms Pryce, of Clapham, London, said she wanted to "nail him".
She denies perverting the course of justice. Huhne admitted the same charge on Monday and has resigned as an MP.
'Play ball'
Ex-Liberal Democrat cabinet minister Huhne and Ms Pryce, an economist, were charged last year over an incident in March 2003 when Huhne's car was caught by a speed camera on the motorway between Stansted Airport in Essex and London.
It is alleged that between 12 March and 21 May 2003, Ms Pryce, who was still married to Huhne, falsely informed police that she was the driver of the car so he could avoid prosecution.
Andrew Edis QC, opening the prosecution case against Ms Pryce, said Huhne could not have passed his points to Ms Pryce on his own - they would have worked together. He said both people had to "play ball".
Mr Edis said Ms Pryce would now use a special legal defence available only to wives, saying that she was coerced by him into taking the points.
He said the jury would have to decide whether Ms Pryce was "weak-minded" and forced into accepting the points by Huhne or was a "strong-minded and manipulative" woman acting of her own free will.
"Focus not on whether she was persuaded but whether she was in a situation where she had a choice," he said.
Mr Edis told the court the speeding offence only came to light in 2011 after Huhne told Ms Pryce he was having an affair.
"She was not only distressed but extremely angry and wanted some revenge and her revenge was to pass the story about the 2003 crime to the newspapers so that it would be published in the hope that would destroy her husband's career," Mr Edis said.
'Manipulative people'
The jury of eight women and four men heard details of email exchanges between Sunday Times political editor Isabel Oakeshott and Ms Pryce from 1 March 2011 as they discussed how to publicise the crime.
Ms Oakeshott told her a "major two-part article" would inflict "maximum and perhaps fatal damage on Chris if you are prepared to be open", Mr Edis told the court.
Mr Edis said Ms Oakeshott told her it would fulfil her dual objective - "bringing Chris down without damaging your own reputation in the process".
Ms Pryce responded in email: "I definitely want to nail him. More than ever, I would love to do it soon."
Ms Oakeshott later replied: "The bottom line is that this story will bring Chris down if you are prepared to go on the record, with the minor risk this carries.
"I think you can make yourself out to be very much the honourable one, saying it has very much been on your conscience ever since, saying you knew it was wrong but you were bullied into it."
Mr Edis went on: "Mr Huhne was charged, he did resign, yesterday he pleaded guilty, he's not a cabinet minister any more. The plan worked."
'Ridiculous stories'
The court also heard Ms Pryce got a recording device from the newspaper to try to tape Huhne over the phone admitting to the offence. The jury was played recordings of four phone calls made in April 2011.
Ms Pryce repeatedly asks Huhne to confirm that she received the points, but he denies it, advising her not to speak to journalists.
In one call, he said: "Can I suggest, if you want to stop journalists door-stepping you, you stop telling ridiculous stories to the press."
In another, he said: "I'm going to tell them (the media) the truth which is of course that I absolutely deny that you ever took the points for me."
At one point, Ms Pryce says to him: "You want me to just lie to people basically, like you have done continuously?"
Mr Edis said: "You might come to the conclusion that these telephone calls are two manipulative people trying unsuccessfully to manipulate each other."
He also told the court a speeding offence "might not seem like a big deal... but ultimately it does matter". The system, he said, would not work if "everyone fiddles it".
The trial has been adjourned until Thursday.
Conclusion is that Chris Huhne is a twat.

Good thing he didn't get the leadership of the Lib Dems.
I agree with Livia, he has only pleaded guilty because he hoped the charges would be dropped or thrown out before a trial.
As I said earlier though, far from increasing any likely sentence,he will because of that guilty plea before the trial was under way,he will earn credits and likely get a more lenient sentence.

Vicky Pryce, the ex-wife of former cabinet minister Chris Huhne, has said she is "very pleased to be home" after leaving prison in Kent.
Pryce, who was convicted with Huhne of perverting the course of justice after she took speeding points for him, has served two months of an eight-month sentence.
Speaking via her lawyer, Pryce, 60, said she was looking forward to returning to work as an economist.
Huhne left prison earlier.

Pryce left East Sutton Park prison near Maidstone, Kent, via a back exit early on Monday with her lawyer Robert Brown.
After returning to her home in Clapham, south-west London, Mr Brown read a statement to reporters on behalf of the mother-of-five.
"Vicky Pryce is very pleased to be home and back with her family," he said.
"She is grateful for all the support she has received from everyone whilst in prison, including her fellow residents and prison staff.
The BBC's Jon Kay was outside Leyhill Prison in Gloucestershire when Huhne was released
"She now intends to spend time with her family and looks forward to returning to her career as an economist."
Pryce has ideas to write about the economics of the criminal justice system, combining her economic expertise with her experience behind bars, according to Mr Brown.
Huhne, 58, was also released on Monday, leaving Leyhill Prison in Gloucestershire by the main entrance, having served eight weeks of his sentence.
He is due to return to the home he shares with PR adviser Carina Trimingham in London.

East Sutton is a parish approximately 6 miles south-east of Maidstone in Kent, England.
East Sutton is small in number of dwellings but relatively large in area: the parish has a women's prison, a council estate of 16 houses and the Grade I listed 13th-century St Peter's and St Paul's Church.
HMP East Sutton Park is a prison and Young Offenders Institution for females, situated in a manor house, located just outside the village.
King Edward VII used to visit the village for liaisons with his mistress, Alice Keppel at Pleasure House, on the border with Sutton Valence.
HM Prison East Sutton Park is a women's open prison and Young Offenders Institution, based in and around an Elizabethan brick house, East Sutton Park, dating from 1570 and overlooking the Weald of Kent. The Prison has a population of (only) 100 (as of January 2007)

Apparently this Minimum security prison barely qualifies as a prison as the inmates can walk out anytime they chose. The prison is situated in a lovely quiet rural setting and if you didnt see the word Prison you would never guess it actually was one.
Mr Huhne would have had his own room and the abilty to lock it from the "inside" to give himself some privacy from nosey prisoners and prison wardens. He would have had the pick of any courses that the prison ran or he could choose to utilise the well stocked Prison library and catch up on his reading.Perhaps some TV with all the Sky channels available.
He probably benefitted from the downtime he had to reflect on his actions and develop a plan of action upon leaving.
All in All a change is as good as a rest and rested and re-invigorated Mr Huhne can now look forward to rebuilding his life completely rehabilitated and ready to face the future.
And who said Prison doesn't work ??
