Ipswich sex slave teenager case: London men jailed

One of four men accused of using a 13-year-old girl as a sex slave told police he encouraged her to resist the other men's advances, a court heard.

Surin Uddin, 28, of Bethnal Green, east London, is accused of conspiracy to traffic and various sex offences.

The trial jury at Norwich Crown Court heard the girl was subjected to a string of attacks over four days.

She was taken from her home in London to a rented house in Ipswich, Suffolk, the court was told.

Uddin, Mohamed Sheikh, 31, of Hackney, east London, and Abdul Hammed, 46, of Wellington Street in Ipswich all deny two counts of rape.

Sheikh also denies causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

Hamza Ali, 38, of Waltham Forest, east London, denies one count of rape and one of sexual assault.

'For their pleasure'

All four deny conspiracy to traffic within the UK for sexual exploitation between 1 July and 13 July last year.

They also all deny conspiracy to rape, conspiracy to engage a child in sexual activity and being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug to the girl between the same dates.

A statement, given to police by father-of-two Uddin shortly after his arrest, was read to the court by Riel Karmy-Jones, prosecuting,

He said the alleged victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told him she had been forced to have sex.

Uddin said he told her not to do anything she did not want to do.

Opening the trial, Miss Karmy-Jones told jurors the men "set her up as a sex slave" and "used her for their pleasure".

One case gets media attention and is reported on on a large scale, then all other incidents will be reported, see the racist woman on a tram then the 4-5 cases that happened afterwards. There are always videos like that uploaded to youtube, but never got to see the light of day until that big case..

NSPCC says child sex abuse has risen to 64 crimes a day

At least 64 children are sexually abused every day in England and Wales, figures obtained by the NSPCC suggest.

More than 23,000 offences - including rape, incest and gross indecency - were recorded by police in 2009-10, an 8% increase on 2008-9, the charity said.

Police recorded over 23,000 sex offences against children aged under 18 years in England and Wales between April 2010 and March 2011.

17,727 sexual crimes were against children under 16.


32% of all sexual crimes (54,982 sexual crimes in total) were sexual crimes against children under 16.


In 2010/11 the police in England and Wales recorded:

5,115 offences of rape of a female child under 16
918 offences of rape of a male child under 16
4,301 offences of sexual assault on a female child under 13
1,125 offences of sexual assault on a male child under 13
5,806 offences of sexual activity involving a child under 16
152 offences of abuse of children through prostitution and pornography
310 offences of sexual grooming.

More than one third (38%) of all rapes recorded by the police in England and Wales in 2010/11 were committed against children under 16 years of age.

Of course, the figures are based on recorded incidents. I have have no doubt that the latest cases involving celebrities and gangs will inflate those figures for last year.

..I agree, unfortunately this is nothing new..especially in Ipswich which is one of the worst areas for child prostitution in the country...this particular area is covered quite frequently in any safegurding training I do..and stories like this are sadly too common...it's very shocking and sad, poor girl...

The girl was subjected to a string of assaults after being taken from London to Ipswich, Norwich Crown Court heard.

During the trial, jurors were told the men "set her up as a sex slave" and "used her for their pleasure".

Surin Uddin, Mohammed Sheikh and Hamza Ali, all from east London, will be sentenced at a later date.

All three were found guilty of conspiracy to traffic and supplying a class B drug to the child who was described as coming from a "troubled" family.

Ali, 38, of Waltham Forest, was found guilty of a sexual assault but not guilty of rape.

The men had denied the offences but were found guilty by a jury after three days of deliberations.

Abdul Hammed, 46, of Wellington Street, Ipswich, was cleared of supplying a class B drug and two counts of rape.

The judge had earlier instructed the jury to find him not guilty of trafficking.

It is long overdue that is the the hot topic in many cases, the hands of the media were tied on this issue as to not start any interacial violence and of course theres the corruption to think about.

I would like to see the Judge in this case impose the absolute maximum sentences that can be imposed. I think these nasty evil sadistic torturing scumbags should be made an example of.

Three men from east London who abducted a 13-year-old girl from the streets of the city and forced her to become their sex slave have been jailed.

The girl, described as being from a troubled family, was driven to a house in Ipswich and sexually abused over four days, Norwich Crown Court heard.

Mohammed Sheikh, 32, Hamza Ali, 39, and Suran Uddin, 26, were convicted of sex offences and trafficking at a trial.

Uddin was jailed for 15 years, Sheikh for eight years and Ali five years.

Judge Nicholas Coleman said the girl had been left traumatised.

'Piece of meat'

The judge told the men: "Instead of helping this girl find refuge, you were all intent on sexually exploiting her for your own ends," he added.

"She was taken to a town she'd never visited, a house she never been to, in the company of men she had never met.

"All three of you treated her like a piece of meat and passed her about.

"This happened over four days until she was finally rescued by police."

Jurors heard how the men took advantage of the girl's "youth and naivety" to persuade her to get into a van, driven by Uddin.

They took her to a house in Chevallier Street, Ipswich.

'Engaging with strangers'

Maria Denine, mitigating for Sheikh, said the defendants had not been aware of her background or how vulnerable she was.

Mitigating for Uddin, Scott Ivill said his client was married with two children and any custodial sentence would cause his family to suffer.

Lindsay Cox, for Ali, said his client was also a married man.

He added: "This girl looked appreciably older than her age and she had a history of engaging with strangers."

Uddin, of St Matthew's Row, Bethnal Green; Sheikh, of Seaton Point in Hackney; and Ali, of Chilford Road, Waltham Forest were all found guilty of conspiracy to traffic in the UK.

Uddin was also convicted of two counts of rape and supplying a class B drug to the victim.

Sheikh was convicted of causing a child to engage in sexual activity and supplying a class B drug.

Ali was found guilty of a sexual assault.

All three men were placed on the sex offenders register and Sheikh and Ali could face deportation to Somalia, their home country.
