Will it hit your area or will it be down the Hill.
"A 150-foot (45-metre)-wide asteroid will come remarkably close to Earth next week, even closer than high-flying communication and weather satellites. It will be the nearest known flyby for an object of this size. But don't worry. Scientists promise Asteroid 2012 DA14 will be at least 17,100 miles (27,518 kilometres) away when it zips past next Friday."

You are Wrong

Instant Death in a second
Glenn.

Its the speed of the thing that would cause the damage. I think the news said it was traveling at about 18,000 mph.
Is that thing about the dinosaurs actually true :suspect:
think i remember it on " Walking With Dinosaurs " actually
Glenn.
09-02-2013, 06:01 PM
I remember watching something on the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs.
Apparently the moment of impact with the earth, only 1% of the asteroid was under the atmosphere.
Glenn.
09-02-2013, 06:01 PM
I think :suspect:

'The asteroid's closest approach will be at 7.24pm on 15 February, meaning that those gazing keenly at the dark skies of eastern Europe, Asia and Australia will stand the best chance of seeing it through telescopes or binoculars'
Glenn.
09-02-2013, 06:13 PM
Its closer than the moon
We could always use Xtina to block it I guess.

Also, It wasn't the inital impact of the asteroid that wiped out the Dinosaurs  They died out over a period of time - due to the asteroid killing off plants and other times of vegetation for them to survive.
Hope Bruce Willis is in standby to save the earth then...
think the Asteroid is just one of many theories that Scientists think wiped out the Dinosaurs though, i'm sure another one was something about Volcanic Ash in the Atmosphere

''The last time something major struck the Earth was in 1908, when an asteroid about 50 metres across exploded in the air above the Tunguska region of Siberia. It flattened forests over an area of hundreds of square miles.''

''Even though 2012 DA14 comes so close and is relatively large (about half the length of a football field), it is not going to become bright enough to be seen with the naked eye. Sky watchers can catch a glimpse of it using binoculars.
The object will be visible through binoculars for about four hours between 18:00 and 22:00 GMT. It is best seen from Australia, Asia and Europe and will be travelling quite quickly for a celestial object, crossing an area of the sky as wide as the full moon roughly every 30 seconds''

There's probably tons of these things happening all the time, but because most of the world is covered by the oceans, or ice, we never hear about them or see them.
