Nicole Sherzinger and Hurts are among the acts rejected for this week's BBC Radio 1 playlist.

Both were personally tweeted by the station, who revealed that they won't be playing their latest tracks on the station due to "more important" new releases.

They said: "@theohurts [Hurts] won't be added today as there is more important releases at the station at the moment.

"@NicoleScherzy is another not to be added. Again, due to the amount of other releases this week."

Other singles that didn't make this week's playlist were Of Monsters and Men's 'King & Lionheart', The Vaccines' 'Bad Mood' and Arlissa's 'Sticks & Stones'.

Meanwhile, songs that were added include Maroon 5's 'Daylight' and One Direction's Comic Relief Single 'One Way or Another'.

In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Radio 1's head of music George Ergatoudis denied that the station has "total control" over the charts.

"A lot of people believe we have total control over what gets in the charts and what is popular, but this simply isn't the case," he said.

"Of course we do have influence, but the public know what they like and if we don't acknowledge that they'll soon turn us off and go elsewhere."

Do you listen to Radio 1 and do they influence in any way what you listen to?

I don't know about self important but they're certainly alienating a lot of listeners and deliberately seem to be trying to attract a very specific demographic. I've been a fan of Radio 1 for many years but since September there seems to be a massive push and desperation to draw in as many teenage girls as possible, with One Direction and Bieber overkill (and I say that as someone who actually likes them).

Everyone on here knows how much of a Moyles fan I am but I still stand by the fact that getting rid of him was the first mistake and was actually quite insulting towards him after the work he'd put in over eight and a half years. I've nothing against Grimmy but it's second-rate radio, there's no creativity, it's just your bog standard, run-of-the-mill breakfast show. It's too commercial, there's no individualism to it and Grimmy's passion for radio is nowhere near as deep-rooted as Chris' was. That's another issue in general I have with Radio 1 - what's the obsession with signing TV presenters? They're two completely separate mediums and as most of those who started in TV don't have anywhere near as much passion or knowledge of radio as those who have had to work there way up, it's actually quite unfair.

I don't know, this time last year Radio 1 seemed to be at its peak, a great daytime schedule and a broad spectrum of shows to cater for all, and now it's as if most shows all blend into one, there's too much concentration on things that'll entice 12 year old girls and there's just a real lack of any genuine radio talent on the station (only really Scott and Greg with radio backgrounds) which is totally counter-intuitive.

Radio 1 sucks now, they clearly have no idea anymore and the fact they deem a crappy cover song more important the ones dismissed are pretty telling of what direction the station is taking.

I also like Nicole Scherzingers new song it's much better than most of the 'more important' songs they've added.

it certainly comes across so

having said that I'm glad they aren't playing Boomerang. I hope it flops badly in fact because this isn't the type of music I want from Nicole

They have always had play lists (even if they do list them in order of importance as in the A list, B list etc). The fact that they are now tweeting what they have rejected to play , as it is not "important enough", is like they are deciding for their listeners what they listen to, but in quite a patronizing way. They are obviously quite within their right to do this, and of course radio stations tailor music to what they think their listeners want, but I don't see the need to individually name artists/tracks that they won't be playing. It's like saying "we've decided this is crap and it won't do well". It will alienate both the artist and the listener.

Used to listen to Moyles in a morning a few years ago. Not listened for ages now though. Seems to be getting worse and worse.

do not listen to that station. there is nothing 'musical' about it. forced, false and profiteering business from wave to wave and just a terrible mish-mash of soulless personalities and cheap music. It's a business, not an entertainment platform. 6Music >

Yes let's ignore OM&M and Hurts talented work and have a 1D cover and the ****test band (Maroon 5) songs on loop instead. **** off R1.

Bit rubbing salt into the wounds to publicly tweet them saying they've rejected their song lol

I used to listen a fair bit just having it on in the background but I've not bothered last few months cos it seems like it's been getting worse, just stick to good old Jack FM now

I love how new music from Hurts and Nicole isn't important though, but the 3rd single of a **** album, by a dirge band is

One point I would make though is that Radio 1's playlist is considerably better and more diverse than its commercial counterparts.

I'd rather that any day over Capital and Heart's same ten songs on a loop every hour interspersed with robotic DJ's that contribute little other than 'that was Rihanna, here's some more Rihanna...followed by more Rihanna'. Vom.

I hate Radio 1, always have. My friends like it but I stick to local radio stations up here because they play a good variety of music and don't have cringy presenters, just people who actually know what they're doing.

The thing that pisses me off about R1 as well is how self obsessed they are, I couldn't give a **** what you had for your dinner last night, play music.

I tend to listen to the radio stations that just play chart music if I'm honest.

Capital and Heart <3

Awful stations :yuk: commercial radio is hard to tolerate at the best of times but they just really are an abomination and a disgrace to the medium

'HI THIS IS RIHANNA AND YOU'RE LISTENING TO CAPITAL'
*Diamonds* '
That was Rihanna and Diamonds on Capital, this is Gen Eric-DJ here, got Ke$ha and the Biebs playing next'
*10000 ADVERTS ABOUT GLASS AND CARPETS*
*Ke$ha and Bieber*
'In the showbiz news Bieber has a new tattoo oooh text in and let us know what you think it means!! Here's Britney's new one'

repeat all day long

Heart's even worse.
