A woman has sued a university for $1.3 million (£836,000) after she received a C+ grade.
Megan Thode, 27, studied at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania in 2009. She required a B in a course, but her low grade meant she failed to become a state-certified counsellor.

Thode claimed that the C+ ruined her chances of a career in professional counselling, and is suing for the amount she believes she would have earned had she passed.

She alleged that her professor graded her harshly because she was a vocal supporter for gay and lesbian rights - a claim which the university vehemently denies.

According to the Daily Mail, Thode's lawyer told the court: "She's literally lost a career."

After receiving the C+, the woman eventually switched to a master's degree in human development and became a drug-and-alcohol counsellor.

Lehigh University's attorney said to the presiding judge: "I think if Your Honour changed the grade, you'd be the first court in the history of jurisprudence to change an academic grade.

"She has to get through the programme. She has to meet the academic standards."

Thode had attended Lehigh University for free since her father was a professor at the institution.

In the end she didnt get the grade, but to give somebody a C+ when they need a B is a bit rotten.

Actually would not surprise me if a tutor/teacher did downgrade her for being overly opinionated.

Academia isn't emotional and shouldn't award grades because someone needs it. You're either good enough, or you're not.

She only needed a B (hardly academic excellence), so she should have worked harder.

Agreed..... Sounds like someone's pissed off that they didn't work hard enough...
