On BBC1 right now

Levine looking good in the 400m and ran a SB 46.34 but Dwain Chambers finishes 5th in 1st heat in 6.81 and doesn't even make fastest looser for the final..

Perri shakes-drayton looking in great form in the 400m but Cox probably won't get a good enough time to qualify for the Semis

Wouldn't really say massive names, there is no Jess, Mo or Greg, but saying that we still have enough to win 2/3 Golds i'd say, Perri looks in amazing form and Robbie Grabarz and Holly Bleasdale are in good form

Who do you guys think will have a good chance of winning a medal for Britain at the World Champs in August? I'm excited to see Shakes-Drayton, Gemili, Dasaolu, Ennis, Ohurugou, Meadows, Bleasdale and Grabarz. I'm hoping Adam Gemili will give the 200m a go this year as well, he was great when I saw him run the 200m at an event in Britain.

Dasaoulu has a good shot of making the Worlds this year too. Is it 3 athletes maximum per event?

British World Trials this weekend (I am lucky enough to be attending Fridays heats!)

At the moment these are the athletes who will most likely get chosen for the world champs:

* = providing the athlete gets the A standard before selection

Men:
100m: James Dasaolu, Joel Fearon, Dwain Chambers* (would've put Gemili here but he doesn't have the A standard and isn't attending trials, although he could get 3rd spot if he gets the A standard at U23 European Championships and Chambers fails to get the A standard)
200m: James Ellington, Adam Gemili, Richard Kilty (if Christian Malcolm wins trials with an A standard time, he'll probably get the slot instead of Richard Kilty)
400m: Nigel Levine, Michael Bingham, Richard Strachan
800m: Michael Rimmer, Andrew Osagie*
1500m: None
5000m: Mo Farah
10000m: Mo Farah, Chris Thompson*
3000Msc: None
110mH: William Sharman*, Lawrence Clarke*
400mH: Dai Greene, Rhys Williams
HJ: Robbie Grabarz, Tom Parsons*
PV: Steve Lewis
LJ: Chris Tomlinson, Greg Rutherford (if he is fit enough to compete after his recent injury)
TJ: Nathan Douglas (can't see Phillips Idowu making the squad due to recent performances.)

EDIT: Phillips Idowu has stated that he is taking a break from Athletics)

Women:
100m: Anyika Onuora, Hayley Jones*
200m: Anyika Onuora, Margaret Adeoye
400m: Christine Ohurougu, (also Perri Shakes-Drayton & Anyika Onuora if they choose to compete in the 400m as well as their respective events and possibly Shana Cox if she gets the A standard)
800m: Marilyn Okoro, Jessica Judd
1500m: Hannah England, Lisa Dobriskey, Laura Weightman
5000m: Stephanie Twell*
10000m: None
3000mSC: None
100mH: Tiffany Porter
400mH: Perri Shakes-Drayton, Eilidh Child, Mehgan Beesley
HJ: None
PV: Holly Bleasdale
LJ: Shara Procter, Lorraine Ugen
TJ: Yamile Aldama*
Hept: Jessica Ennis-Hill (if she is in form, but she hasn't competed once this year)
(not too sure about throwing events at the moment)

The relay squad will probably consist of a combination of 4 any of these athletes
Men's 4x100: Adam Gemili, Dwain Chambers, James Dasaolu, Harry Aikeenes Aryteey, Danny Talbot, Richard Kilty, Joel Fearon
Men's 4x400: Nigel Levine, Michael Bingham, Richard Buck, Martyn Rooney, Conrad Williams, Richard Strachan, Luke Lennon-Ford
Women's 4x100: Anyika Onuora, Margaret Adeoye, Asha Phillip, Dina Asher-Smith (not too sure on this relay squad actually)
Women's 4x400: Christine Ohurougu, Perri Shakes-Drayton, Eilidh Child, Shana Cox, Anyika Onuora, Margaret Adeoye, Meghan Beesley

What about Katarina Johnson-Thompson? she'll be competiting in the Heptathlon won't she? some great names there though, Perri Shakes Drayton has been amazing this year probably the stand out name out of the younger athletes for me, Dai Greene has been on a massive downward spiral though ever since the Olympics

What about Katarina Johnson-Thompson? she'll be competiting in the Heptathlon won't she?

Well she is at the European U23 Championships whilst the trials are ongoing (which is also why Gemili can't attend) and I think she'll only get chosen if she performs well there, otherwise I can see them just selecting Jessica Ennis-Hill (who btw hasn't even competed properly at all this year).

Am I the only one excited to see Christine Ohurougu run against her sister in the 400m? I'm sure Victoria Ohurougu will be a star of the future

I really hope Perri runs in the 400m too, or at least gets selected for it and she agrees.

11-07-2013, 04:22 PM
Surprise surprise.... Jessica Ennis-Hill has withdrawn from the trials this weekend. She has yet to compete in any events this year. I don't know how she thinks she's going to do well at Moscow, and I'm starting to doubt she'll even be picked at all.

Add this to the news that Phillips Idowu is taking a break from athletics and it's not looking good for Team GB.

Novo
11-07-2013, 06:46 PM
Idowu's performances are always unpredictable anyway, can't say i'm really bothered about that and Jess tweeted that she isn't given up yet but Moscow is only a month away now and there isn't much hope of her competing anywhere near her best with less then a Month's training

Headie
13-07-2013, 04:30 PM
James Dasaolu ran 9.91 today at the trials, but he didn't run in the final, however I still think he'll get picked for Moscow. Dwain Chambers won the trials with 10.04 and Harry Aikeenes-Aryteey finished 2nd with 10.08. They'll both most likely be going to Moscow too.

Athletes Guaranteed a place at the World Championships in Moscow (so far):

Dwain Chambers - 100m
Asha Philip - 100m
Christine Ohurougu - 400m
Dai Greene - 400mH
Rhys Williams - 400mH
Marilyn Okoro - 800m

To put Bolt's BLISTERING performance into context Tyson on one leg was running faster times last year

I'm sorry Bolt may get away with his rubbish when less knowledgeable sports fans are around but when i'm around the Bolt's , Young's of this world will be called out

Bolt your a great athlete however you will never be in Michael Johnson's league and sadly for your fans will never be in Tyson's either as you failed to take up the challenge and spiked his tests to save embarrassment at the WCS

Legend Killer what more does Bolt have to do for you to show him a little bit of respect?

He's won the Gold medal in the last two Olympics in both 100m and 200m.
He's won the Gold medal in the World Championships in 100m, and won the past two gold medals in the 200m

Oh yeah he's also the World record holder at both 100m and 200m, just to put that in perspective for you, it means he's the fastest human being that's ever lived.

So what's your negativity? are you jealous? or are you just too proud to admit when your wrong? it takes a real man to do that

I'd put Bolt in the top five greatest sportsman of all time

The simple answer is he has to beat a Healthy Tyson Gay. And with Tyson being healthy for the first time in 4 years Usain had his chance to put me and other "haters" in our place but sadly he refused the challenge and AVOIDED EVERY event Tyson competed at

All the titles you won are great achievements no doubt and among the less knowledgeable poster ala Brother Leon they will prove Usain was the GOAT of his era (Don't think about comparing him to MJ BRB 100 200 AND 400 with very little benefit of sporting advancements) however among sporting historians like myself we will understand that

A. He NEVER beat a Fit Tyson in any of the major events
B. He never beat a fit Tyson Period and spent a whole year avoiding him once he became fit
C. Last time he met a fit Tyson at a major event he was eating Tyson's ass in both the 100 and 200

No lie I never really liked Usain before this year. However it grew to HATE when he shamelessly avoided Tyson who was fit for the first time in 4 YEARS

He's p4p the number 1 poster on TIBB
He's got a record amount of 50 comment thread's even though he does not post anything BB related

Oh yeah he's NEVER avoided a challenger unlike Bolt. He has taken on the likes of Brother Leon , MTVN , Marc , Locke , Novo and Iceman to name a few (many at the same time I might add) and has conquered each and every one of them.Just to put that in perspective for you, it means I am UNDEFEATED in sporting debates with a win loss percentage of 100%

So what's your negativity? are you jealous? or are you just too proud to admit when your wrong? it takes a real man to do that

Dominates the 5000 and 10 000 has won world cross country championships and has won events in the 1500 yet you can't see past the "oh look mum he runs really fast" mentality.

Let's look at Bolt

100 - Avoided his only real competitor when he got healthy
200 - Has dominated in a poor 200 field with his only competitor being injured
400 - Realised he was gonna suck ass and ditched the idea

Compare Bolt to another 100m athlete in the same event.. not an athlete in a totally different event all together, you going to compare Phelps to Ben Ainslie next? Distance Running is a totally different thing unless of course you think Bekele can run 100m in 10 seconds (which i wouldn't be surprised if you did think that)

then again you did actually try and compare another 100m runner to Bolt but it turned out he was a drug cheat so well done

Yes i was talking about Athletics because the 100m is a part of Athletics.. the same way Distance Running is but i wouldn't compare Athletes who compete in different events directly to each other because that is she wrong in many ways, the reason i said you might as well compare Phelps and Ainslie is because the preperation and training for the 100m and 10,000m is totally different it is just insane to compare them to each other just like you were....

Just remember i wasn't the one who compared Bolt to Bekele and then tried to justify it by saying OH IT IS ALL A PART OF ATHLETICS!!!!!!! how about Hammer throw and Long Jump then???? you going to compare the GOATS of those two sports to each other???? you talk so much bull**** it is unreal and the sad part is you try to justify it over and over again but you sound even worse everytime you do, BRB going to compare Darya Klishina to Sally Pearson

I mean a 9.77 isn't all that faster than a 9.80 so I wouldn't call it a stupid expectation, and a drugged up Tyson ran 9.75 this year so he could possibly compete with him. But yeah this whole thing is ridiculous.

And in other news, impressive to see Reese pull off her 6th straight championship LJ title, Eaton was good as always, Nixon had a tremendous first day and should only get better in years to come, and Gardner killed her preliminary. But I'm an American so I don't expect anyone to care about this.

Pole vault champ Yelena Isinbayeva backs Russian anti-gay law

http://www.cbc.ca/gfx/images/sports/photos/2013/08/15/isinbaeva-940.jpg

Pole vault great Yelena Isinbayeva condemned homosexuality Thursday after criticizing fellow competitors who painted their fingernails in rainbow colours to support gays and lesbians in the face of a new anti-gay law in Russia.

The Russian, who won her third world title Tuesday in front of a boisterous home crowd, came out in favour of the law which has drawn sharp criticism and led Western activists to call for a boycott of next year's Winter Olympics in the Russian resort of Sochi.

"If we allow to promote and do all this stuff on the street, we are very afraid about our nation because we consider ourselves like normal, standard people," Isinbayeva, a two-time Olympic champion, said in English. "We just live with boys with woman, woman with boys.

"Everything must be fine. It comes from history. We never had any problems, these problems in Russia, and we don't want to have any in the future."
