Gary Oldman has joined the cast of the new Planet Of The Apes movie.

The sequel is set 15 years after the events of 2011's Rise Of The Planet Apes, in a world where intelligent apes rule and most of human race has been wiped out. According to ComingSoon.net, Oldman will appear as the leader of a human colony.

Zero Dark Thirty's Jason Clarke has recently signed on to star in the film, titled Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, while teen actor Kodi Smit-McPhee has also been cast in a lead role.

Motion capture specialist Andy Serkis will be back as rebellious chimp Caesar, but the star of the 2011 movie, James Franco, has admitted he is unlikely to return even for a cameo appearance.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is being helmed by Cloverfeld director Matt Reeves after Rupert Wyatt, who called the shots on the 2011 movie, dropped out last September. Filming is scheduled to begin this spring for a May 2014 release.
