So basically some of us at my work have taken the $50 challenge where for one week that is all we are allowed to live off of. Bills and rent etc are not included but anything else spent must come out of the budget. We are on day two and so far most people have already spent over half of their budget, lol. I'm doing pretty well so far.

Anyone else done this before or reckon they could survive?

Personally, That wouldn't last me past Monday as that is when I top up Petrol and then put some cash on my Oyster for the week

With me still being young. Dad and my brother pay for like food and bills and stuff, so I could definitely last with 25 quid for a week.

All I'd need to buy is lunch at college on a Wednesday/Thursday/Friday

You cannot live off others money or food. You have just £25 for seven days, so that includes food, social activities (oh wait this is TiBB, lolol), smoking, drinking, takeaways, magazines, buses, trains, taxis, petrol etc.

I bet most of you wouldn't last. ;)

How are people finding this easy? :o

A London travelcard for the week costs £26 ffs . FML.

I don't smoke or drink http://i.imgur.com/1kLHJNi.gif and everywhere I travel to is within walking distance. I do sometimes take a train, but that's just a short journey.

Also I don't eat fast food, well I hardly ever, maybe once a month if even that. So I could just spend the money on food and make vegetarian meals.

Could go several weeks without spending if I had to. Got plenty of food, and I live on campus so no need to travel.

I'd realistically end up spending about a tenner a week if I did challenge myself. £25 is easy though.

You can't live off food you already have. Just what you can get with the £25. ;)

Yeah no problem, normally only spend about £15 on my weeks shopping anyway, and I pretty much walk everywhere, plus if it's only for 7 days then I could just go without takeaways, magazines, big nights out etc. for that time

Not a chance in hell could I survive. £25 would hardly make an impression on my fuel gage, never mind anything else.

I think in my current situation I'd be alright, but then again I do live at home which would make it monstrously easy. I get free travel on busses too (God bless student Oyster cards) so that wouldn't be an issue really. I find it's only when I go on the tube that my wallet takes a beating. The thing is so damn expensive.

In the autumn when I'm actually a uni student I think this would be far more difficult.

if it's $50 I think we should get the more accurate £33.19 :idc:

I could do that easy. Only thing I spend money on really besides food is smoking. Can get a 50g pouch off the backy man for £6. Leaves me ~twenty quid for food

Just means I wouldnt be able to go out socially really for the week...but thats ok..its only a week

Edit, Unless we are factoring work costs into this too :suspect:

Well providing that's around £33.60

14 Iceland £1 ready meals = £14.00
2 loaves of bread = £2.10
2 bottles of milk = £2.00
Coco Pops = £2.50
Butter = £1.50
A 4 pack of chocolate bars = £1.00
A multipack of crisps = £2.00
And a takeaway on Friday = £9.00

in what world is that a challenge

No I'd still go out, you don't always need money to go out and enjoy yourself.
A week of ready meals isn't hard at all, could still eat a packet of crisp with it and a bar of chocolate every other day. Also on Friday go to Subway for lunch

Amy Jade
04-03-2013, 06:20 PM
Yeah I would have water and toast for every meal, which would leave me with at least £40 right?

Then spend the rest on a night out.
