If I knew who it belonged to of course I would return it. No question no hesitation.

I wouldn't bother contacting the authorities, I'd just give it to the person i know it belongs to.

I've seen people accidentally drop money while paying the cashier in front of me. I just pick it up and give it to them. It never even occured to me to try to keep the money. You pick it up and give it to them. period.

i would hand it back,but if it came from crime i would not, also if it was someone who was very rich i would not hand it back.

I'm not poor though. Maybe if I was poor and desperate I would think differently. I hope I would be just as honest if i was poor though. I think I would be.

If I knew who it belonged to, then yes. I have found decent amounts of cash left in cash points on a few occasions, and with no one around, I haven't handed those in.

But I've done that myself too, and I know those machines tell whether money is left there, and refund the account holder without question, so that's the banks money not a persons.

I suppose, as Alex says, it's all about the situation. £10k would be nice, but it wouldn't change my life, or enable me to feed/cloth my children.

If I was desperate and had dependents, then I can't honestly say what I'd do.
