Carrie Fisher will return for Star Wars: Episode 7.

The actress and writer has confirmed that she will reprise her Princess Leia role in JJ Abrams's sequel.

She revealed the suspected return when questioned about the possibility by Palm Beach Illustrated.

When asked how she imagines an older Leia, she joked, "Elderly. She's in an intergalactic old folks' home.

"I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle," she continued.

She joked that she would still be wearing her famous outfits from the original trilogy.

"The bagel buns and the bikini, because probably she has sundowners syndrome," said Fisher. "At sundown, she thinks that she's 20-something. And she puts it on and gets institutionalised."

Fisher was recently hospitalised in Los Angeles after suffering a bipolar episode on a Caribbean cruise ship.

Disney's Star Wars Episode 7 has been targeted for a 2015 release, although it is suspected that this might slip following Abrams's unveiling as director.

It's going to be depressing seeing her look so ancient looking after her being one of the hottest movie stars ever

Think it would be in their best interests to get Nina Dobrev to play the role of her daughter
