Following on from last years General Election, run by Kate, we saw 'La Bear Party' [Nathan, Ben and Shaun] win TiBB's vote in the campaign. I figured TiBB could do with a big boost to morale again that can get many members involved without having to participate in a game and that can be fun and creative.

Part 1:

Members may nominate one member only (with that person's permission), but you may NOT nominate yourself.

Part 2:

Once we have ten potential candidates with two votes each, they will be the leaders of their campaign. They must state in 100 words or less why they should go forward to Part 3.

From here the forum members then may support ONE candidate and choose to 'back' them. Once a candidate reaches 8 supports they will qualify for Part 3. Only five candidates will make it.

Part 3:

From here the 5 successful candidates will then gather a team; a campaign manager and a designer. These three will then put together a campaign speech detailing why they should be elected to become TiBB's PM and take over from Nathan. They will also need to produce a party name, posters, logo, campaign support and anything else they feel may give them an advantage over their other candidates.

The campaign speeches and campaign promotion shall be posted and a forum vote shall occur where the supporters can vote for their favourite party, with the winning campaign taking the crown.

Everyone can vote, including Candidates, Campaign Managers, designers and Supporters. Please let's keep this light-hearted and fun.

You may nominate potential candidates now, but make sure you have their permission.

Yeah hi I'm back posting. Don't ask me why. Let's just move on. Fantastic that this is back.

Can I just suggest that policies should be Tibb related, as last time that wasn't specified? As Ben is running it, its up to him.

I would like to nominate Annie ( if she wants to do it )

Cheers.

Candidates only require two nominations...rules in the OP :)

I think that it should be Tibb related policies, a lot of people wanted that last time, when I ran it, normal tibb rules apply as they do anywhere else, I'm sure the candidates will be sincere and sensible in what they propose. Anyhoo, Ben's at the helm so he will decide.

Candidates have to accept their nomination and then it needs to be seconded. First ten to fulfill those criteria will proceed to the next stage.

I just want to say, anyone doing this event will find it a really great one to be involved in, the planning and presentation and working with their campaign managers, I worked with The Mockinator last time, the campaign manager was Livia and she was so special and a dream to work with.

This year, I really haven't the time to commit to all that is required, although I am on a few times in a day,it is between times on other things.
It is my last few months at Uni and I have a workload that is pretty heavy so I regretfully feel I cannot devote the time I did to this last time.

Good luck to all who do get nominated and make sure you get a really good campaign manager if you can, I and Mock had the absolute very best in Livia last year it makes a massivel difference having that support.

I will watch this years event with great interest and Nathan in my view was a worthy winner last year and a good PM too.

How about picking the leaders, then they all go off and create their campaigns, party names etc in secret, and then Ben presents them to us without giving away the names of who created each campaign (so it's sort of anonymous) and then we vote? And the campaign designers are revealed after the vote?

If that was to happen again why go to the trouble of campaigning?

True, but then it goes back to not wanting it to be a popularity contest. Which leads me nicely to this....

How about picking the leaders, then they all go off and create their campaigns, party names etc in secret, and then Ben presents them to us without giving away the names of who created each campaign (so it's sort of anonymous) and then we vote? And the campaign designers are revealed after the vote?

Jack, you should present this idea and your earlier one about policies to Ben. I think it's very feasible. It's not my decision since I'm not running it this year, but if I were then this would be where I would like to go with it.

Jesus.

Agreed, but people have to firstly agree to be nominated, and then put a campaign together. It's not like it's compulsory for everyone to do it. It's like any game, you know what's involved before you start, then you work out whether you can commit the time to it.

If you'd have been able to do it, you know that there are some people that would vote for you regardless of what you wrote, and others that wouldn't vote for you if you were the only candidate. It's the floaters where this game is won.

So basically what you are saying is no matter how good/bad you are your mates will vote for you... and you can PM the rest of the forum and ask them to vote for you?... sorry but that sounds like a rubbish game.
And I'm sure that is what ben is wanting to avoid at all costs.

Kate!
06-03-2013, 04:49 PM
Yeah, we'd better stop trying to plan Ben's game for him.. let him make the rules :)

The rules are are in the OP :) They are more or less the same ones I devised when I created this event last year, and it went very well :) I do think Jack has good ideas which he has put forward on here, as you picked up on Lee as well.

I get the consensus about it being a popularity contest, but that's for the host to resolve.

I felt, in retrospect last year that it was a really good positive event and everyone enjoyed it, there was no arguing, it was lovely etc. The only drawback was that people were being asked to vote (which is fine, and all part of campaigning) and just agreeing and casting said vote without even knowing what it was all about. I don't know the answer to that, but Jack's idea might well ne the path to go down.

Thoughts?

Kate!

Yeah, basically. The definite Yes' and nos' are the strips at the edge, but you win the game by winning the block in the middle. Just like any election.

Thoughts?

I also have to say *Kate* you organised it perfectly in my opinion, it did develop a bit of a mind of its own as it progressed but you were a great help and support to all who needed advice as to it.

The thing I really loved most was that over the whole event, there was not really a single cross word, argument or any warnings even issued despite the large differences of opinion from the parties/candidates and supporters of same.

Quite an achievement and one you should rightly be proud of Kate, as the whole thing was your idea last year.

there's no award for it or serious competition, it's ultimately down to a poll, so can we do away with all the butthurts and the "this has to be fair!!!" comments because it's really quite tedious

Don't get where you're coming from here Shaun, I've seen nobody saying anything on the lines of "this has to be fair!!!!" or maybe I am interpreting it differently though and we see it in different contexts  I didn't even know it was being brought back till it appeared on here, although I was asked last time by quite a lot of people who really enjoyed it to do it again as an annual thing.

yes, there's not really a viable way to get round it, so I see where you are coming from there, I also just re-read your post properly (I often skim read them - shouldn't really do that) and it's true that there is no award for this etc, I think that's why it was so much fun last time, everyone really was in good spirits for it and there was good natured rivalry, they also continued campaigning right till the end, even though the victory was clear. I loved it.

Excuse me? I'm not sucking the fun out of anything, or even attempting to...I was merely suggesting a few ideas as to how this could possibly be improved on and made (in a sense) more fun. There's no need to exaggerate. I quite like the idea of presenting both real life and TiBB policies, and presenting the campaigns anonymously means people will actually be basing their decisions on the policies that people have spent time devising? What's wrong with that? That sounds quite fun to me...to see who can come up with the best policies and be rewarded for doing so. That's not sucking the fun out of this at all. They were just suggestions...Christ almighty...

Sorry but I'm not going to be accused of sucking the fun out of some game when I was merely trying to offer some ideas as to how it could be made more fun and more worthwhile. I will happily admit when I've been accused of doing something I am doing, but when all I've done is try to think of how it could be improved on (nobody has to agree with me but again, I'm not trying to spoil it) I find it rude to be told I'm somehow sucking the fun out of something I'd quite like to enjoy :conf:

I'm leaving everything public and viewable, like a real election. But I do like some of the suggestions and may implement some of them further down the road.

For the time being we have 4 candidates (Lee, Kate, Lucas and Apple) confirmed and three that have qualified but not said if they are happy to be there. If I get ten before any of those three confirm they will lose their spot.

Once we have ten potential candidates with two votes each, they will be the leaders of their campaign. They must state in 100 words or less why they should go forward to Part 3.

Part 2:

I've decided to go with just 9 candidates for part 2 as Scott hasn't been online to confirm.

The following nine candidates now need to PM me a statement as to why they should progress through to part 3 and why they deserve your votes. They only have 100 words to do so, so no essay's please.

You can write whatever you want within thse words, but you need to sell yourslef as to why you should be considered for TiBB's PM.

You have 24 hours to do this.

I will then post all of your replies for the forum to support you. The first five to gain 6 supports will progress through to the final stage.

Forum members you may support ONLY ONE candidate at this stage.

I still don't understand understand this game. Are we just voting for who we like the most? What does the person who wins actually get? do they get to be a mod?

I'm guessing TiBBs PM is different to a mod, but yeah, I'm also guessing its just gonna be a popularity contest.

Yes, you're pretty much right. It's really just for entertainment and there's no award or anything afterwards. It's fun to either take part in or just observe. Last year was the first time it was done, there's always gonna be the popularity element, but games (although this is more an event than a game I suppose) tend to evolve on Tibb plus the fact its in different hands this time, being run by Ben, which is a good thing as you get the best of how it was already combined with new elements that a new host will bring. I know people have put forward some really good ideas in here to try and offset the popularity contest 'issue'. We might see something on those lines introduced, you never know. :)
