Danny Boyle has confirmed plans for a Trainspotting sequel.

He hopes that the adaptation of Irvine Welsh's follow-up novel Porno will see the return of the original cast including Ewan McGregor.

The filmmaker plans to begin making the film in 2016. John Hodge, who wrote the screenplays for Boyle's Trance, Trainspotting, Shallow Grave and A Life Less Ordinary, is currently working on the script.

"This has been a long time coming," Boyle told The Playlist.

"There's always been this long-term plan for Trainspotting 2, if John can produce a decent enough script, I don't think there will be any barriers to Ewan or any of the cast coming back. I think they'll wanna know that the parts are good so they don't feel like they are letting anyone down."

Boyle's next film Trance - which stars James McAvoy and Rosario Dawson - will open in the UK on March 27 and in the US on April 5.

Teaser trailer for Trainspotting 2. Film is released on 27th January 2017. I don't think they are following the book closely.

I watched Trainspotting last week. One of my favourite British films actually and I'm not a fan of that many.

Looking forwards to the sequel.

Trainspotting is such an iconic him. I love it. Fantastic soundtrack as Karl has already mentioned. Atomic and Born Slippy are two of my favourite songs

Not sure what to think of the trailer, as part of me thinks the original should have been left alone.

I'm still looking forward to it though, and Danny Boyle can hardly do wrong.

Choose a zero hours contract :joker: Sad but true.

I didn't, Josy. His name isn't down for the filmography of T2 either.

Yeah, I forgot about his character until you said. It's been so long since I've watched the first film. I can't wait to watch in time for when the sequel is released :amazed:

I'm quite surprised to see how many members of the original cast came back. I didn't expect to see Kelly MacDonald or Shirley Henderson, but then it is such an iconic film (and part of their careers) that they probably felt like they owed it to Danny Boyle.

First thing I noticed watching it was that Sick Boy hasn't aged at all.

They've aged him though, Robert Carlysle doesn't actually look as old as that.

When is it out?

Kind of don't see the point in a sequel but I suppose it would be interesting to see a couple of them in a life off drugs.

I went to see it on Sunday, I already posted in the movie thread but will paste it here

T2 - Loved it, although I've seen a lot of people saying it was amazing, as good as the first etc, I don't want to be a killjoy but I still think the first film was amazing, this 2nd one was really good yes but not on par with the first imho and I also much prefer the first soundtrack.

The part at the end when Renton starts playing the remix of iggy pop and dances is a great addition though

Just came back from watching this at the cinema. I definitely agree with you, Josy - the the first one is iconic in its own right (I watched it yesterday to get myself in the mood), but the sequel is still enjoyable nonetheless. Very different though, and not exactly what I was expecting.

I got emotional during the scene where they were at the pub with the protestants, since my whole family have been raised as protestants and we're a Rangers-supporting household. My Grandad's funeral song was Penny Arcade, so that was sad but nice.

The ending with Spud's stories was really lovely, and I liked Gail's line: "I've got a name for it."

I was happy Veronica left with the money too, and that Renton and Sickboy lived happily ever after :joker: Yeah, but seriously, I don't mean to sound like a fourteen year old girl but they would make a good couple. I kept thinking that Sickboy looked so good-looking throughout the film.

I loved the teases of Lust for Life and Born Slippy too. The very end was so poetic.
