Whilst at work today I got a phone call from my wife who told new her grandad hasn't Beemer answering his phone and whilst driving past his curtains were still drawn and the papers were sticking out of his letterbox. iHer uncle went down with her and broke the door down where the found him on the bathroom floor after suffering a stroke . He had collapsed at 10 pm last night and Been on the floor until 11.30 am today unable to get up or shout for help. I came home from work to watch the kids whilst she went to hospital.
9 years ago to this week my wife's grandma had a stroke and a heart attack and she was in a coma for 5 days. So the timing of this couldn't be worse.
Thanks for listening and for being a pal
His speech is slurred and disphasic and he has lost his strength in his left side. So can every please pray for us that he will be ok and recover enough to continue living an independent life.
I do work worth stroke victim's so I know what to expect sadly.
Thanks

Whilst in your opinion prayers don't work they do go someway in giving people hope and helping them cope worth their grief and letting them know people care.

I know, it doesn't bare thinking about.
I see it all the time at work, patients falling in their own home and not being able to ge t mad being incontinent and being on the floor for mama many hours. It must be really degrading.
When it happens at work with patients it affects you bit at the end of the daughter lots your job so you have to help them, you never expect it to happen to a loved one.
All I'm trying to do now is be here for my wife and give her all the support she needs as she is very close to her grandad in fact everyone is close to each other as they are a very close family which is lovely to see.

It is terrible news.
I find it is very difficult to say but he could recover enough to live independently as you said, Peter. Dignity is very important.

..aww, I'm really sorry to hear that Peter..there isn't a 'good time' for something like that to happen obviously..but your wife's mind and thoughts would have been so tuned into what happened to her grandma at this time anyway...it's always the same on any significant date and things that bring back sad memories...so that's so very hard for her and for all of you...is there any news..?..and how are you, because this is all hard for you as well and to comfort your wife etc..are you ok..?

yea, that doesn't mean that prayers work though.... it just means it helps some people have delusions and feel better. Ecstasy can do that too...

I had an uncle go through this a few years ago, Peter, same slurred speech and loss of muscular function on one side of his face. But he is doing well and fully recovered now, back to his usual self. Wish the same for your wife's gramps here. Take care. oo

..yeah, it is important to say that as well SA because sometimes these things aren't always the worst and people do recover and get mostly full functions back..I'm glad it was that way for your uncle..

No one's saying praying works like magic, it offers support and shows you care.
Just hoping for the best.

Had a phone call fromy wife to say the drs have said because of the stroke he has fluid causing pressure on the brain, because of his age and frailty after the stroke were they to operate he would die. They have said he probably has hours more than days left.

Every day I have to see things like this at work and tell families bad news. I've never been on the other foot really and it's not bloody nice.
I just need to be here for my wife and the kids.

So true. It's not until you're in a situation like this that you realise how devastating it is for everyone involved.
I'm sorry he's in a bad way at the moment. I hope he takes a turn for the better, even if the docs say it isn't likely.
-hugs- x
I am so sorry to hear that, Peter, and really feel for you, and your family, at this time. Small comfort I know, but that your wife's Grandad was found and taken to the comfort and care of the Hospital, family and friends, he now has you all round him whatever the outcome. I still hope and pray there is a positive outcome for you all. I can't imagine how hard it must be for you all.
