A man is seriously ill in hospital after a car crashed and ended up embedded in a house in Suffolk.

Emergency services were called to Long Meadow Walk, Lowestoft, at about 01:45 GMT to find a red Audi TT had left the road and crashed into the home.

The driver, believed to be in his twenties, was removed from the vehicle and taken to the James Paget Hospital with serious head injuries.

He has since been transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital.

Three people were in the house at the time of the crash but no-one inside was injured.

No-one inside the house at the time of the accident was injured in the crash
Keith Shales, 66, who lives in nearby Cotmer Road, said: "When I got there and saw the car through the hole in the hedge I thought 'That looks serious'.

'Launch pad'

"I've seen photos of cars going into people's houses before but from the pavement, through the bushes and the cars behind it - it was like a launch pad - it must have been for him to get that high.

"I reckon he must be about four feet off the ground, I've never seen anything like it."

Structural engineers are on site to inspect the property and police said the occupants had left the house while safety inspections continued.

Sgt Bob Patterson, of Suffolk Police, said: "Collision investigators will be at the scene today as we try to ascertain exactly what has occurred.

"At this early stage we could not speculate as to what has caused the crash."

OMG:o. I hope the people that were affected are OK!

I think Addenbrookes specialises in neurological, head injuries. So it must be very bad. I hope he pulls through. I was under that hospital for years when I had a certain type of tumour removed.

A man was seriously injured when a car crashed into a house in Lowestoft, Suffolk.

The Audi TT is thought to have left the road, hit a vehicle on the drive and smashed into the northern corner of the home in Long Meadow Walk.

Emergency services were called to the scene, at the road's junction with Uplands Road North at around 1.45am on Sunday, and found a man in his 20s trapped in the vehicle.

Police closed the road before the injured man was taken to James Paget Hospital with serious head injuries.

The injured man has since been transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge.

Structural engineers have been called to attend the property.

According to police there were people in the house at the time, but no-one was hurt.

"Just shocked", said a spokesman.

The road has now been reopened

Holy ****, I have just found out that this guy is actually someone I know quite well, he was in a few classes with me in school and at sixth form, and we played football with each other

We weren't particularly friends but we got on well, he was a bit of an arrogant guy etc etc...so I'm not really distraught but it's just a bit of a shock..wow..hope he gets better

Nathan's story reminded me of a classmate that died in a ATV accident. Was a bit annoying but shocked to find out that he died.

But wow how'd he get that car up there that high?
