Batman: Arkham Origins will release on current and next-generation systems later this year, it has been reported.

Despite previous rumours suggesting otherwise, the prequel is apparently being developed by Arkham City and Arkham Asylum developer Rocksteady Studios for a third quarter launch.
The game, which is likely to be unveiled at this year's E3 gaming expo, will take place in DC's Silver Age, according to Gameblog (via CVG).

It is said to depict Batman's first meeting with the Joker and introduce Justice League heroes such as Superman and Green Lantern.

Time Warner confirmed plans to release a new game in the Arkham series during a financial report in February.

Previously discovered domain name registrations include Batman: Arkham Universe, Batman: Arkham Arises and Batman: Arkham Origins.

Yes please.

I'm a bit weary about having the joker as the main villain for a THIRD game in a row....

It's weird, City seemed to set up the potential for Black Mask (with his Bruce Wayne mask), Scarecrow (the hidden radio stations and boat with the cockroaches) and a feature from Azarael.

I do love the Arkham games versions of the Joker, but I do wish more attention was given to other villains. Ivy and Bane had quite small roles (and they were portrayed as kinda pathetic in City), and the Penguin could be much more menacing than he was.

Was hoping for a modern day open world. However, any Batman game is good to hear of. Hopefully we get a new one soon.

I think they're going back to milk it a bit (which I'm all for by the way), then they'll go and do Black Mask and the others you've mentioned without the joker being included....

You're going to love Asylum, it's obviously not as big as City but it really does set city up, both are fantastic games they're in my top 10 favorites.

Without giving too much away Bane and Ivy play a bigger role in Asylum.

I guess if the Justice League is involved the main villain could be one of their foes while the Joker's role could be lessened in this one. It'd be nice for another villain to get the spotlight though, there's a lot of very interesting Batman villains that are often ignored.

Batman Arkham Origins has just been announced for PC, Wii U, PS3 and Xbox 360! Set several years before the previous chapters in the series, the story will put you in the shoes of a younger Batman. Players will meet many of the franchise’s most important characters for the first time and even develop important relationships with them.

Alongside the main game, a spinoff title called Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate will be available for 3DS and Vita platforms. Both games will be available on October 25th of this year,00 and will be developed by WB Games Montreal, rather than series creator Rocksteady. Stay tuned to Gamefocus for more details on the game!

Could be interesting, like I said before though I want a new main villain. I'm sick to death of the Joker.

It looks quite good.

Also Deathstroke has been leaked as a DLC character, whether that means he'll just be playable in Challlenge mode or he'll play a part in the Story like Catwoman in AC remains to be seen.

Batman's voice actor has accidentally leaked the existence of the fourth Arkham game. I've been hearing rumours that Arkham Origins is basically a tarted up Arkham City which makes sense if they are focusing their efforts on the next gen effort.

it's too big and excellent a series to limit to three games (well, major games, let's ignore the DS versions and so on)

I'll watch the trailer in a bit... can't wait though (also can't wait to get home and play Asylum)

Plus the ending of City left some plot strands that need to be followed up on. What do you think of Asylum?

want so bad

is it just on this generation? I'm increasingly going off the prospect of getting a PS4 for christmas what with Watch Dogs pushed back and so many good PS3 games yet to try... (this, Last of Us, still not really done with GTAV)

Just for this gen. It was rumoured a while back that the next gen Arkham game was already pretty far along though so if it's true then it won't be long until we hear about Arkham 4.

I'm not going to bother getting a PS4 until mid way next year, there's no launch games I want and the first batch of consoles ALWAYS have issues.

I wouldn't pay attention to the critics with this game, if you liked the previous Arkham games then you'll like this one. The core game isn't dramatically different to AC but the story is fun and there's a lot to do. It's a good stop gap inbetween AC and the next gen sequel.

Critics have torn this game to shreds yet they'll climax when Infinity Ward **** out another Call of Duty, a game that hasn't seen any changes in years.

(general thoughts on the game: the graphics are a bit... blurred? Idk. It's hard to focus on some stuff and it's all a bit OTT. Not much difference from City in terms of gameplay, which is disappointing. It's not grabbing me, really. But it's OK)
