Comic Russell Brand claimed a pair of male celebrities were child abusers to a large television studio audience yesterday. During a break in the filming of Brand X, his U.S. TV chat show that is filmed in London but not shown in Britain, Brand, 37, said the two men were paedophiles during a monologue about disgraced TV presenter Jimmy Saville and Operation Yewtree, the police investigation into historical child abuse in the world of showbusiness. The Daily Star reported he told the stunned crowd: 'And you've got the lesser ones... the underlings. There's ______.'
He added: 'And some say old ______ is playing around.' Neither of the men mentioned have ever been convicted of a sex offence. He also told the 200 guests at the Duchess Theatre in Covent Garden that the investigation made the controversy surrounding the call he made to actor Andrew Sachs joking about sleeping with his granddaughter, egged on by TV star Jonathan Ross, not quite as controversial.
Speaking of the incident, widely known as Sachsgate, he said: 'It puts the whole Sachsgate thing into perspective doesn't it? '"I ********* your adult granddaughter". Not quite the same, is it?' A member of the audience said the comedian and movie actor made the audience uncomfortable when he made the claims. He said: 'No-one had heard these stars linked to the Savile case. They didn't have a clue until then.'
Controversial: Russell Brand in West Hollywood. He said Sachsgate paled in significance to the current controversy over alleged sexual abuse
The newspaper contacted the agents of the two men named for comment, one said they had not heard of the incident and had no comment. The other was not available.
Brand and Jonathan Ross caused a national scandal in 2008 when they left smutty messages on veteran actor Andrews Sachs's answerphone during a pre-recorded Radio 2 show.

I don't see why he would lie. I believe him.
I think it's obvious that at least one of them is Jeremy Clarkson...
If I had to venture a guess as to the other one... I think it might be David Dimbleby. That's just a supposition though, not concrete.
It wouldn't be hard for me to imagine eigther one of them putting fingers in young female family members of theirs.
One can only suppose.

I wonder why he said it on his show. Maybe he told it to the police months ago, and he's frustrated that nothing's been done against them yet.
It might be that he's trying to push the police's hand because he's frustrated that more hasn't been done.

Maybe he's just a malicious rumour-monger ..... ;)

He can talk a lot of sense, and then he starts bleating about sachsgate again and I switch off.
I was surprised he was 37, his outbursts and general outlandish behaviour make him appear younger.

Rolf Harris is not new or startling though, he was mentioned in connection with Yewtree before.

I agree with jack....if people actually watched him talk about drug abuse rather than just name call him for well no apparent reason I think they'd change their mind about him or maybe not call him a name without any real reason. :idc:
Brand's views on drug abuse have got nothing to do with his being a bell-end - I know at least as much as he does about addiction and have at least as much experience of the tragedies.

Drugs and alcohol are not my problem — reality is my problem. Drugs and alcohol are my solution.
If this seems odd to you, it is because you are not an alcoholic or a drug addict. You are likely one of the 90 per cent of people who can drink and use drugs safely. I have friends who can smoke weed, swill gin, even do crack, and then merrily get on with their lives. For me this is not an option. I will relinquish all else to ride that buzz to oblivion.
I looked to drugs and booze to fill up a hole in me. Unchecked, the call of the wild is too strong. I still survey streets for signs of the subterranean escapes that used to provide my sanctuary. I still eye the shuffling subclass of junkies and dealers, invisibly gliding between doorways through the gutters. I see the abundantly wealthy with destitution in their stare.
It is frustrating to love someone with this disease. A friend of mine’s brother cannot stop drinking. He gets a few months of sobriety and his family bask, relieved, in the joy of their returned loved one. His life gathers momentum, but then he somehow forgets the price of this freedom, returns to his old way of thinking, picks up a drink and Mr Hyde is back in the saddle. Once more his face is gaunt and hopeless. His family blame themselves and wonder what they could have done differently, racking their minds for a perfect sentiment wrapped up in the perfect sentence, a magic bullet. The fact is, though, that the sufferer must be a willing participant in their own recovery.
Brand's experiences and views are nothing new to me - I've been there, done that and written a book about it - but I certainly won't take issue with someone else "spreading the gospel" about living with addiction.

He's surprisingly on-point about that but he's still irritating and juvenile, and doesn't appear to show any remorse for the Sachsgate thing. Obviously it was blown out of proportion, but either way, telling someone you banged their granddaughter is pathetic and childish. What irritates me most about him is his verbosity, he obviously thinks he's incredibly clever and possesses a huge and archaic vocabulary but more often than not he gets lost in his own elaborateness.
I did really admire his tribute to Winehouse, though, and think he's generally a nice guy. Just annoys me.
