Full war declaration statement from DPRK (via KCNA):
The moves of the U.S. imperialists to violate the sovereignty of the DPRK and encroach upon its supreme interests have entered an extremely grave phase. Under this situation, the dear respected Marshal Kim Jong Un, brilliant commander of Mt. Paektu, convened an urgent operation meeting on the performance of duty of the Strategic Rocket Force of the Korean People's Army for firepower strike and finally examined and ratified a plan for firepower strike.
The important decision made by him is the declaration of a do-or-die battle to provide an epochal occasion for putting an end to the history of the long-standing showdown with the U.S. and opening a new era. It is also a last warning of justice served to the U.S., south Korean group and other anti-reunification hostile forces. The decision reflects the strong will of the army and people of the DPRK to annihilate the enemies.
Now the heroic service personnel and all other people of the DPRK are full of surging anger at the U.S. imperialists' reckless war provocation moves, and the strong will to turn out as one in the death-defying battle with the enemies and achieve a final victory of the great war for national reunification true to the important decision made by Kim Jong Un.
The Supreme Command of the KPA in its previous statement solemnly declared at home and abroad the will of the army and people of the DPRK to take decisive military counteraction to defend the sovereignty of the country and the dignity of its supreme leadership as regards the war moves of the U.S. and south Korean puppets that have reached the most extreme phase.
Not content with letting B-52 make sorties into the sky over south Korea in succession despite the repeated warnings of the DPRK, the U.S. made B-2A stealth strategic bomber and other ultra-modern strategic strike means fly from the U.S. mainland to south Korea to stage a bombing drill targeting the DPRK. This is an unpardonable and heinous provocation and an open challenge.
By taking advantage of the U.S. reckless campaign for a nuclear war against the DPRK, the south Korean puppets vociferated about "preemptive attack" and "strong counteraction" and even "strike at the commanding forces", openly revealing the attempt to destroy monuments symbolic of the dignity of the DPRK's supreme leadership.
This clearly shows that the U.S. brigandish ambition for aggression and the puppets' attempt to invade the DPRK have gone beyond the limit and their threats have entered the reckless phase of an actual war from the phase of threat and blackmail.
The prevailing grim situation more clearly proves that the Supreme Command of the KPA was just when it made the judgment and decision to decisively settle accounts with the U.S. imperialists and south Korean puppets by dint of the arms of Songun, because time when words could work has passed.
Now they are openly claiming that the B-2A stealth strategic bombers' drill of dropping nuclear bombs was "not to irritate the north" but "the defensive one". The U.S. also says the drill is "to defend the interests of its ally". However, it is nothing but a lame pretext to cover up its aggressive nature, evade the denunciation at home and abroad and escape from the DPRK's retaliatory blows.
The era when the U.S. resorted to the policy of strength by brandishing nuclear weapons has gone.
It is the resolute answer of the DPRK and its steadfast stand to counter the nuclear blackmail of the U.S. imperialists with merciless nuclear attack and their war of aggression with just all-out war.
They should clearly know that in the era of Marshal Kim Jong Un, the greatest-ever commander, all things are different from what they used to be in the past.
The hostile forces will clearly realize the iron will, matchless grit and extraordinary mettle of the brilliant commander of Mt. Paektu that the earth cannot exist without Songun Korea.
Time has come to stage a do-or-die final battle.
The government, political parties and organizations of the DPRK solemnly declare as follows reflecting the final decision made by Kim Jong Un at the operation meeting of the KPA Supreme Command and the unanimous will of all service personnel and people of the DPRK who are waiting for a final order from him.
1.From this moment, the north-south relations will be put at the state of war and all the issues arousing between the north and the south will be dealt with according to the wartime regulations.
The state of neither peace nor war has ended on the Korean Peninsula.
Now that the revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK have entered into an actual military action, the inter-Korean relations have naturally entered the state of war. Accordingly, the DPRK will immediately punish any slightest provocation hurting its dignity and sovereignty with resolute and merciless physical actions without any prior notice.
2. If the U.S. and the south Korean puppet group perpetrate a military provocation for igniting a war against the DPRK in any area including the five islands in the West Sea of Korea or in the area along the Military Demarcation Line, it will not be limited to a local war, but develop into an all-out war, a nuclear war.
It is self-evident that any military conflict on the Korean Peninsula is bound to lead to an all-out war, a nuclear war now that even U.S. nuclear strategic bombers in its military bases in the Pacific including Hawaii and Guam and in its mainland are flying into the sky above south Korea to participate in the madcap DPRK-targeted nuclear war moves.
The first strike of the revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK will blow up the U.S. bases for aggression in its mainland and in the Pacific operational theatres including Hawaii and Guam and reduce not only its military bases in south Korea but the puppets' ruling institutions including Chongwadae and puppet army's bases to ashes at once, to say nothing of the aggressors and the provokers.
3. The DPRK will never miss the golden chance to win a final victory in a great war for national reunification.
This war will not be a three day-war but it will be a blitz war through which the KPA will occupy all areas of south Korea including Jeju Island at one strike, not giving the U.S. and the puppet warmongers time to come to their senses, and a three-dimensional war to be fought in the air, land and seas and on the front line and in the rear.
This sacred war of justice will be a nation-wide, all-people resistance involving all Koreans in the north and the south and overseas in which the traitors to the nation including heinous confrontation maniacs, warmongers and human scum will be mercilessly swept away.
No force on earth can break the will of the service personnel and people of the DPRK all out in the just great war for national reunification and of all other Koreans and overpower their might.
Holding in high esteem the peerlessly great men of Mt. Paektu, the Korean people will give vent to the pent-up grudge and realize their cherished desire and thus bring a bright day of national reunification and build the best power on this land without fail.
Full war decleration statement.

This is the same old game of threats for food, NK busters and blusters and eventually the US says OK we'll give you some more food aid, lessen the sanctions and you in return will be good little commies and stop trying to make the big bomb.
Only this approach is not working as they will not stop making the big bomb and their bellicose rhetoric is getting worse. I guess the US will now say nothing and wait for NK to actually try and walk the walk instead of talking the talk.

China has zero interest in this, though. They'd rather stay friends and happily infiltrate the U.S. through immigration and crazy amounts of export. Everything has been going their way. No way NK gets China's backing in this.
They would fight if they had to, but it'd be against NK, unless they thought they could win and have it be profitable. North Korea says it has "ratified" a nuclear strike against the United States.
The state news agency carried a statement from an army spokesman, saying a "merciless" attack against the US had been approved, potentially involving a "diversified nuclear strike."
The announcement came after the US said it will send a missile defense system to Guam to defend it from North Korea.
US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel described the situation as a "real and clear danger" from Pyongyang.
North Korea has threatened a nuclear strike on the US and missile attacks on its Pacific bases, including in Guam, a US territory in the Pacific.
New UN sanctions were imposed over the country's third nuclear weapons test in February.
Yesterday, North Korea said it would revive a mothballed nuclear reactor able to produce bomb-grade plutonium.
"Some of the actions they've taken over the last few weeks, present a real and clear danger," Mr Hagel told an audience at the National Defense University in Washington.
He said he had to take the threats seriously, language he has used in recent weeks as the United States revamped its missile defence plans and positioned two guided-missile destroyers in the western Pacific to bolster missile defence.
The United States has also flexed its muscle during military drills with South Korea last week, flying two bat-winged stealth bombers on a first-of-its-kind practice bombing run over South Korea.
North Korea this morning closed access to a joint factory zone that earns €1.6bn a year in trade for the impoverished state.
However, more than 30 South Koreans returned home in the evening, relieving fears they could have been held hostage.
Factories in the Kaesong Industrial Park are still believed to be operating, but North Korea's decision to block entry is a further sign of the growing tension on the Korean peninsula.
Yesterday, North Korea said it would restart a nuclear reactor that had been shut down in 2007.
The industrial park has not formally stopped operations since it was inaugurated in August 2000 as part of efforts to improve ties between the two Koreas.
South Korean companies pay a total of more than €62m a year in wages to workers in the zone.
It houses 123 companies and is staffed by 50,000 North Koreans and hundreds of South Korean business owners and managers.
More than 800 South Koreans had stayed overnight in the park, just north of the world's most heavily armed border.
South Korea's Unification Ministry demanded the park be opened.
North Korea has threatened a nuclear strike on the United States and missile attacks on its Pacific bases after fresh UN sanctions were imposed for the country's third nuclear weapons test in February.
The government has also said it is in a state of war with South Korea.

That industrial zone brings in billions of much needed revenue to the impoverished nation, and for them to suddenly be willing to cut it off? Well I think that speaks volumes. I'd like to think that Kim Jong-Un is trying to push for concessions from international powers, but then again if he wanted that, he could of achieved that some time ago now, couldn't he? I get the feeling more and more that he's being belligerent and hostile to prove himself to his country, without care as to the results it produces.
Either way though, if this does lead to war then there is one major positive that I see: the North Korean people will be free. I mean, they've lived under a regime which is in many ways, the closest real life thing to Oceania from 1984. After living under that for 70 years, it's them more than anyone else who deserves freedom imo.

But yeah they haven't threatened war on the rest of the World they have threatened War on Countries they feel they have to defend themselves against.. if you read more about the 2010 attack on South Korea you will find that South Korea were doing Military Drills on the Border and if another country is flying nuclear capable planes nearby your going to be pissed off.. and there just two of the main incidents we know about.. there is certainty a lot more we don't know about, I don't really agree with the way either side are handling the Situation though

You do realize that NK has kind of brought this incident on themselves. They cut off the lines to South Korea so there's no diplomatic contact. I'm sure US has tried to reason with NK but NK has said nope. US set up the missile system as a precaution.

I didn't mean the world anyway, I meant South Korea/America/Japan but I couldn't say all that because of Twitter's dumb character limit.
I don't know too much about the incident with that island so I can't really comment, but about these military drills this year, well the DPRK has never really offered such a strong reaction to them before.
Like I was saying on Twitter, I think this reaction to it all is just the ruling elite fearing their own overthrowing of power in North Korea. The fact that it's a small group of people making all these decisions to safeguard their own cushy lives is a lot more sinister to me than what the US/South Korea are doing - i.e trying to deter any attacks on their population through provocative displays of their power.

Oh dear:
North Korea has shifted a missile with "considerable range" to its east coast, South Korea's foreign minister says.
Kim Kwan-jin played down concerns that the missile could target the US mainland, and said the North's intentions were not yet clear.
Pyongyang earlier renewed threats of a nuclear strike against the US, though its missiles are not believed to be capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
The US is responding to North Korea by moving missile defence shields to Guam.
The Pentagon said the shield on its Pacific island territory would be ready within weeks, adding to warships already sent to the area.
The North has previously named Guam among a list of possible targets for attack that included Hawaii and the US mainland.
Japanese and South Korea reports had suggested the missile being moved by the North was a long-range one with a capability of hitting the US west coast.
However, experts believe the North's most powerful rocket, which it test-fired last December, has a range of 6,000km (3,700 miles) and can reach no further that Alaska.
Kim Kwan-jin told MPs in a parliamentary defence committee meeting that the missile had "considerable range".
"The missile does not seem to be aimed at the US mainland. It could be aimed at test firing or military drills," he said.
Analysts have interpreted Mr Kim's description as referring to the Musudan missile, estimated to have a range up to 4,000km. Guam would be within that range.
The North is believed to have its main military research centres in the east.
It has test-fired missiles from there before, and its three nuclear-weapons tests were carried out in the east.
But in recent weeks it has threatened nuclear strikes and attacks on specific targets in the US and South Korea.
It has announced a formal declaration of war on the South, and pledged to reopen a mothballed nuclear reactor in defiance of UN Security Council resolutions.
In its latest statement, attributed to a military spokesman, the North appeared to refer to ongoing military exercises between the US and South Korea in which the US has flown nuclear-capable bombers over the South.
The statement said the "ever-escalating US hostile policy towards the DPRK [North Korea] and its reckless nuclear threat will be smashed".
It promised to use "cutting-edge smaller, lighter and diversified nuclear strike means of the DPRK" and said the "merciless operation of its revolutionary armed forces in this regard has been finally examined and ratified".
The US Department of Defense said on Wednesday it would deploy the ballistic Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System (Thaad) to Guam in the coming weeks.
The Thaad system includes a truck-mounted launcher and interceptor missiles.
US officials recently also announced that the USS John McCain, a destroyer capable of intercepting missiles, had been positioned off the Korean peninsula.
Some analysts say Pyongyang's angry statements are of more concern than usual because it is unclear exactly what the North hopes to achieve.
As well as the rhetoric, Pyongyang has also taken action to deepen antipathy with the South.
It has shut down an emergency telephone line and stopped giving access to South Koreans who work at the joint industrial zone in Kaesong in the North.
The Kaesong complex is staffed mainly by North Koreans but funded and managed by South Korean firms.
Pyongyang blocked access for a second day on Thursday, and threatened to shut down the zone. [Source (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-22027867)]

North Korea has isolated itself, and made mistake after mistake in terms of the economy. And they way too much money on military development which could go to figuring out a way to feed its own people.
Sure the sanctions will not help, but the you can't pretend like the sanctions are the main reason people are starving

I didn't mean that. Of course the people running the country have that responsibility, but their lives are also unaffected by those same sanctions.
I think KJI was spending about 40k each month on brandy at one stage. Sanctions placed on them by other countries never stop what they are designed to stop. I agree that you can't just let countries run by lunatics, do exactly what they want, but how about a system of food drops that go directly into neighbourhoods? How about encouraging the people to rise up against the government and military, how about leaflet drops?
Sanctions are no good when they give the people in the country being sanctioned, more reason to hate outsiders.
Jesus.

TOKYO - The Japanese government said Thursday it is taking every possible measure to collect information and collaborate with other countries amid signs that North Korea is preparing to launch a missile.
"We understand every development (in North Korea) by collaborating with the United States and South Korea," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told reporters, as Pyongyang has reportedly moved what appears to be a mid-range missile to its east coast facing Japan. "It is extremely regrettable they repeat provocative acts."
The top government spokesman said Tokyo is braced for the "worst-case scenario," he said, adding China and Russia can play "significant roles" in defusing tensions surrounding North Korea, which announced this week it will restart a nuclear reactor that can produce weapons-grade material in defiance of international resolutions.
Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera separately said his ministry is closely communicating with the United States concerning the U.S. Defense Department's plan to deploy a land-based missile defense system to Guam in coming weeks to counter the threat of North Korean ballistic missiles.
"We will prepare to respond without any mistake" to a possible missile launch, Onodera said.
Chief of Joint Staff Gen. Shigeru Iwasaki told reporters that Onodera had instructed him to redouble efforts by the Self-Defense Forces to monitor the situation in the North by enhancing surveillance and stepping up the exchange of information with the United States.
North Korea has become increasingly belligerent, threatening to launch nuclear and missile strikes against South Korea and the United States, which it accuses of preparing to wage war by conducting joint military drills.
The isolated country has also barred South Korean workers from entering a jointly run factory park just over the heavily armed border in the North.

I still don't think it'll amount to anything, Kim Jong-un is just beating his chest. From what I understand of their economy I doubt they have the means to do anything significant.

Bad news folks ...this is going to escalate into a shooting match very soon, apparently the US is in a real bind with the USD heading down the toilet , a lot of economists are saying the game is up for the dollar being the worlds reserve currency and the major BRICS nations are already trading outside of the USD.
The reality is the game is up economically for the US and to continue printing worthless US Dollars is only hastening their demise. So what to do under such circumstances .... Well I wonder how about I know start a war and hey presto we can deflect and misdirect the people's anger by creating far more serious issues.
So folks it looks very much like North Korea has been chosen as the patsy in this high stakes gamble , will the people in the US and the rest of the wider world fall for this only time will tell..
Me well, I'm heading off to my bunker...!!!!!!

i see a thread is started on this - hope u dont mind me adding my 10 cents.
my Kim Jong - Un taunt - am i a dead man walking ? Gangland style - 05.04.13
alert alert for harm,
the USA have no smiles,
getting ready to defend from "Guam",
a shield of missiles.
there is no triangle,
its not even hexagon,
a war ship is already in the triangle,
with in seconds, can be action from the Pentagon.
is the "worry" friction,
with there ideology,
time for a "annalist" prediction,
they just don't "rate" there technology.
military basses in the "regional area",
are there best target aim,
for them its not any "scarier",
this threat is not one bit tame.
a few statements and threats,
from a angry "North Korea",
the "south" are safe with "Usa" nuclear "lets",
this is not "verbal diarrhea".
its official,
there defiance is a deceleration,
opening a nuclear reactor is a move that's "initial",
anger is rising so much quicker then "inflation".
allot of heavy talking,
will " Kim Jong-UN"dictatorship haunt,
the USA need to stop him walking,
because unforgivable is his taunt.
( if anyone can remember my poem on EE and gangland - i would just like to make clear this is not related. is my view on Kim to harsh ? or does mel need to tay tay tayyyyyyy)
