Don't know if anyone already knows about this, but I've just been told. It's called Geocaching and it's a massive world wide treaure hunt with items/objects hidden in so many places around the entire world. You use GPS/smartphones to locate these tresures and you'll be surprised how many are actually hidden near where you live right now.

This will appeal to game players on here who like doing things like this in real life.

I've done this before with my brother. He always finds the treasure though and I'm stuck wandering around through the trees.

It sounds amazing! I'm going to start looking tonight on my walk, there appears to be at least 8 on the route I take. Weird to think that all these things are hidden for this game and so many people don't know that they are right there.

Creepy? Wtf? Looking for treasure? And it's not pointless, it's a game.

Yeah they're hidden in like little tupperware containers. I'm surprised people don't throw them away thinking they're litter.

my nearest 'treasures' are in some ecology park and another in a basin that noone goes to and the thought of just going there alone (yes alone because there is no way in hell anyone I know would want to do this, understandably) knowing some weirdo has been there secretly hiding things gives me the creeps.

and pointless because I want a prize

We have a challenge set here now to see who can find the most in a month. :amazed:

Word of caution: the coordinates aren't always exact so a GPS will only get you so close to the treasures. Learned that the hard way

..yeah, Ian was doing one in Germany not long ago, around Christmas..I think there's a conversation where he explains about it in the abandoned buildings thread...

Did this once as a part of my school's Arts Fest. It was terrible. An obese hipster kept trying to push me off the surrounding cliffs, and then I got stuck behind a herd of slow-walking foreign exchange students, and then I passed them and couldn't find the rest of the group and the trail split off and I got lost in the wilderness of Maine </3

What does the little question mark next to some mean? It says unknown cache, so does that mean the person who hid them has forgotten where? or just that they are made harder to find?

I may start doing this again. :amazed:
