JOHN LESLIE SACKED AFTER PRIVATE LIFE ALLEGATIONS

JOHN Leslie has been sacked from ITV1's This Morning programme.

The company says it has terminated his contract after he failed to respond to recent allegations about his private life.

Granada says it has given John Leslie every opportunity to give his response to the allegations made against him.

A spokesman added: "We have asked him what he intends doing to challenge them, and as yet we've had no response.

"As a result it is no longer possible for him to present This Morning. We have therefore formally terminated Granada's contract with him today. ITV agrees with this course of action."

There had been increasing speculation about the presenter's future after allegations about his off-screen conduct.

Leslie, a former boyfriend of actress Catherine Zeta Jones, was believed to earn a six-figure sum for his role on the daytime show.

He took over as one of the main presenters on This Morning after the departure of Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan when they jumped ship to Channel 4 last year.

Leslie becomes the second high profile presenter to have lost their job in matter of days as a result of their private lives.

Angus Deayton was axed from Have I Got News For You because the BBC and the show's makers Hat Trick Productions decided his position was "untenable" as he had now become the butt of the jokes by guests and panelists.

That just shows you that fame and fortune doesn't bring happiness, it's sad to know that some celebrities are so unhappy with their lives that they have to behave like this, and through it destroying their careers!

The sad truth is that some people use and abuse their position in society to behave disgracefully. I suspect it was ever thus, but in the past, the system protected people in power. Now the tabloids (bless them) and serial relationship survivors with autobiographies to sell like Ulrika are here to make sure we miss nothing.

Sometimes of course, and often devastatingly for the people involved, the 'facts' are scurrilous.

Now I don't believe anyone should have to live as a saint because they are high profile. I think there is however an inherent responsibility not to behave abysmally and with absolutely no regard for the thoughts and feelings of others, when you are in a position of power and influence.

If the allegations about the former presenter mentioned are true, then he thoroughly deserves his very public come-uppance.

There is an issue about the gullibility of members of the public who find celebrities sexually irresistable, I mean, even Tim Culley supposedly had groupies after him following BB3, Yeuch! In one of the Sunday tabloids there was a report from a girl who was 17 at the time of her alleged liaison and she was undoubtedly with him solely because of who he was.

However a gentleman/lady would never take advantage of their situation.

It's one thing presenting a false image, but peversely the broadcasting authorities etc do not reward honesty either. Remember when Jessica (now from Liberty X) sealed her own fate on Popstars by owning up to smoking pot in the past? Everyone else kept stum, and I'd hazard a guess that the majority had done the same. But they couldn't be seen to take her in as part of the final line up after that. (They consequently made the disastrous choice of Kym Marsh, - gobby, feisty, and trouble written all the way through her).

And back on Blue Peter- the old stomping ground of Mr Leslie - Richard Bacon made a similar admission, and was summarily 'let go' from his contract.

Not to mention the original legendary 'Blue' peter Duncan, who was found to have previously appeared in porn films a la 'Boogie Nights'...........

So, what happens?

We are left with the public, scrubbed faces of 'squeaky clean' presenters and performers. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, it's Cheech and Chong.

Well said ROB. What worries me is the fact that allegedly what has been insinuated against John Leslie was well known in the media industry. However lets remember he has not been tried and convicted of anything in a Court of law, but tried and convicted by the press and a lot of females who are making unstantiated allegations against him. I am not trying to condone what he may or may not have done, but I am sure there are many other people in the media who behave in exactly the same way, but havent yet been found out. :nono::nono:

And lets face it these were all adults who even though they say they objected to how he was allegedly behaving went back for more.

Just because someone is in the public eye does not mean that they have to be squeaky clean and, let's face it whilst there are silly stupid girls/women who find a degree of stardom a real aphrodisiac then this sort of thing will happen.

How many times have we read kiss and tell stories in the papers. While the tabloids pay out good money for this type of story and so called stars think they can have any girl they want - then this kind of thing will happen.

Sorry to get on my soapbox, but for some people fame comes too quickly and with girls throwing themselves at them then they will take advantage of it.

Fact No 1 - Ulrika said she was raped.

Fact No 2 - It turns out that the alleged rapist was John Leslie.

Fact No 3 - Ulrika has not said it wasn't him.

Fact No 4 - He has not said it wasn't him.

The silence is rather condemning!

Today he has gone to the police of his own valition.
If I was raped or abused I wouldn't keep seeing the person concerned. I would go right to the police about it.
Isn't it funny how all of a sudden all these women are coming forward saying he abused them.
As for Ulrika. Good publicity for her book.
People are probably buying it now, that wouldn't have even bothered before all this came out.
Innocent until proved Guilty.
:conf::conf::conf::conf::conf::conf::conf:
I for one hope he is INNOCENT.
