According to The Bolton News, it is thought the man was refusing to come down over fears that he would be deported.

A spokesperson for the police told the paper: "At 8.40pm on Thursday, April 11, police were called following reports a man had climbed up a tree on Platt Fold Road, Leigh and refused to climb down.

"There are concerns for his well being and force negotiators are currently at the scene.

"Roads around the immediate area have been closed while efforts are made to get the man down."

At about 12.40pm today (April 12), the man was helped onto a platform raised by firefighters and brought down safely.

Haha... I heard about this on the radio yesterday. They had to close all the roads in case he jumped.

There is a massive eastern European community in Leigh but not sure what nationality he was.
