Its all kicked off at work, The cook made some sandwiches for a meeting we were having, she made tuna, salmon, ham salad coranation chicken, cheese and onion and egg mayo, now this is where it all goes wrong.*

The cook had some bacon left from breakfast so thought she wpuld chop it up and put it in the egg mayo. A muslim bloke who came to the meeting had a sarnie annd didnt realise tiol he was on his 3rd bite that the butty had bacon in it.
He has properly kicked off and mean massively, he wants the cook sacking and wants to sue the company, its all going crazy.

*The cook has apologised and obviously meant no harm .
Whos fault is it?
The cook for not asking if any muslims were coming even though she had prepared for veggies or is it the blokes fault for presuming all the food was halal.

I know the cook very well so im obviously siding with her

Blokes fault

I agree, I think since he has the issues with certain foods, it's up to him to make sure things like sandwiches don't contain the things his god won't allow him to eat.

He should have checked before he started eating imo.

The blokes fault. The same if he had an allergy to a certain type of food, it is your responsibility to check what you are eating before you consume it, if after he had confirmed what was in it and given the incorrect info, then the cook would be at fault.

I bet you the cook will still get disciplined over this.

I'm afraid its your fault Peter, the sarnies should have been labelled and had a health warning and a warning triangle on the egg mayo with bacon.

Im sorry but we as non muslims are unwittingly eating halal meat every day of the week so he will just have to get on with it.

blokes fault but she will prob get sacked as it will sumik to do with race.

Bloke's fault, you can't expect the world to know what you personally can and cannot eat.

Ammi
13-04-2013, 09:30 PM
No she didnt. Sge just got asked to prepare some as far as I know

..then I can't see that it's her fault Peter..maybe she should have asked but then they should have told her as well because they would know he would be at the meeting...your boss or the person chairing the meeting should take responsibility and explain that he hadn't told her...but the guy should be a little understanding of it all as well....

If you take a sandwich which is labelled egg would you really double check and open it though

Vicky.

Never picked up on vegetarians from the OP

Well...the bloke would not think that sandwiches made for veggies would have bacon in surely?

Depends if the Egg Mayo was labeled or not. The guy should of double clarified anyway. I always do that myself anyway.

but the sarnies weren't labelled it wasn't as if they were in the veggie section. If you are have to avoid certain foods and food is not labelled personally I would check, the onus is on him

Yeah I guess

Sounds like a big fuss over nothing though to be quite honest. A mouthful of bacon never killed anyone, the bloke will have learnt to ask before eating, and his god will not send him to hell for a mistake.

Everythings fine.

You can't really say that when you're not religious. It's more of a personal thing, it's not because the consequence is 'hell' (which isn't even the consequence for eating bacon once unknowingly or knowingly. why do people always jump to that conclusion?) It's like you can't expect a passionate vegan who accidentally ate meat because some thick woman wasn't doing her job properly to just 'get over it'.

Well I would in that situation too.

From what we know, it wasnt 'some thick woman not doing her job properly'

It was 'some man who didnt think to ask what was in an unlabelled sanwich'

Totally different :S

You can't tell people what to do if you haven't been in their situation.

She had a job of making egg mayo sandwiches, she should fully know some people have a preference of not eating meat. So no she wasn't doing her job properly.

And the sandwiches must have been labelled/the man must have asked the cook. How else would he not know whether he was picking up a ham sandwich/chicken sandwich/egg sandwich?

Vicky.
13-04-2013, 10:30 PM
If he asked and cook didnt mention bacon, then obviously it was her fault.

If labels were on but didnt say bacon, again cooks fault.

If no labels and he didnt ask, just assumed, then it was his fault.
