View Full Version : Scary Movie 5 a flop

Far, far, far behind in #2 is The Weinstein Company’s Dimension Film Scary Movie 5(3,402 theaters) bombing badly for $5.8M Friday and $13.4M for the weekend. Considering that 2006′s Scary Movie 4 opened to $40.2M from 3,202 theaters, this franchise has run out of steam. For one thing, there’s no Anna Faris or Regina Hall who both starred in all four earlier installments. But it does have the nauseating casting of Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen playing themselves. (Audible groan…) Once again, Dimension just isn’t bringing the box office heat to Weinstein Co grosses like it did to the old Miramax. Bringing back the Scream and Spy Kids franchises produced only 1/2 and 1/3 of the originals’ openings.

Obviously because of no Brenda & Cindy :idc:

They were crap after the first one, and even that one was nothing special.

I saw a clip with Molly Shannon doing Black Swan in it, looked funny. I love Molly Shannon though.

I blame the Vampire Sucks, All the cheap parody movies movies that came after 3/4. They ruined the brand.

Yes, #2 over the weekend, a right box office bomb that. It was never going to get the same as the others, but it's still a respectable opening considering it only took $20 million to make

It makes sense. The 1st one was pretty original as a concept, but it inevitably becomes, less and less funny.

I dont think the numbers are that bad though.

2 was by far the best, when cindy's running from the skeleton and Brenda's like "Die Bitch, Please dieee"

What a shame, this one actually looked funny. The others were decent, but only because of the goddess Brenda  and that one scene with Queen Latifah in Scary Movie 4

I think all of them were funny, especially if you liked the first one. The rest werent as good, but they were still funny if you ask me.
Its all about just laughs!

Yeah, decent spoof films, and I still fancy giving this one a watch

I watched Scary Movie 5 the other day. It's an improvement upon the previous one however at the core of it is still a very badly done film. Crap even.

Saying that I enjoyed it. Some bits were funny and pretty much what you expect from a film of this type. It's one of those things that you laugh at, but also thing at the same time "why the hell did I pay £5.50 to see this". :P

Thought it was actually better than 4 (except the Brenda bits) and loved Ashley Tisdale's character, the maid, Snoop and Charlie/Lindsay.

1&2 were great at the time.
Love 3 as well.
4 was pretty terrible, so haven't bothered with this one. (That plus no Anna or Regina)

Ok I just got back, it was okay but didn't really seem like a scary movie :/ the lack of Cindy and Brenda is very obvious :(

I didn't mean it like that, I meant it didn't really seem like it was part of the franchise :p

Brenda was the only decent character throughout. Cindy had her moments but it was all about Brenda. A Scary Movie film without them is completely selling out. The Wayans brothers must be annoyed.

Its made $28 million, on a 20 million budget, so not exactly a flop. Just not as much as its predecessors obviously.

Jake.

It's made $37,622,008 so far?
