Coronation Street actor Andrew Lancel denies child sex charges

A former Coronation Street actor has pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting a teenage boy.

Andrew Lancel, 42, from Gateacre, Liverpool is accused of six counts of indecent assault on a child under 15.

The actor, who played Frank Foster in the ITV soap, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court under his real name, Andrew Watkinson.

The charges relate to one male victim and the offending allegedly took place between 1993 and 1994, the court heard.

Mr Lancel was granted bail until his trial starts on 3 June.

The actor appeared in Coronation Street from January 2011 until March 2012.

On the one hand, I always wonder why people don't do something about it at the time, but on the other hand I totally understand it from personal experience - being the victim of a crime doesn't always leave you feeling helpless, sometimes you're just very apathetic for a long time and you'll only speak up when you're ready to talk about it. Maybe the victim feels like they're just doing the right thing by coming forward now? Odd.
