View Full Version : Was I right to run?

Just want some feedback here over something that happened on Thursday night.
I went into town to meet a few friends - I have stayed out of town for months, after becoming somewhat of a 'target' amongst several little groups and gangs in town - mostly down to nothing tbh.
Anyway, I went in on Thursday because I thought it wouldn't be full of people looking to stab me etc - as it was a Thursday, and I was right. It was empty.
Me and my bestmate sparked up a joint, that was pretty much packed with green - and very little tobacco. Some time passed, and my mate left me at the bus stop before heading home - now as we were walking to the bus stop, a voice called me - it was a member of one of the old gangs who had wanted me 'dealt with' from last June, and hadn't spotted me until now.
I simply nodded at him and he smiled - wanting a conversation, however I walked on with my friend to the bus stop.
Once my friend had left, I was standing by myself waiting for the bus - quite baked, time was going really slow tbh. Suddenly the same guy from earlier, came over to me and struck up a conversation - he was being pretty nice, but kept looking at his phone as if he was expecting a text, and then looking at his friend.
His phone rang, and he quickly said goodbye to me before walking on abit.
I watched the pair as they walked on - afterall, they were linked to a group who wanted my head on a stick last year.
I initially dismissed it, blaming my paranoia on the spliff I had earlier - but then as I looked, the both of them waited until they were a few feet away from me - looked around, and then bolted as fast as they could - down a street.
A street that just so happens to lead to their gang's little 'spot' - the second I seen them run, I darted towards the other direction and ran as fast as I could to get the bus elsewhere.
Some of you may call me a coward, but I know from experience that these boys and their mates never fight fairly.
It's been bothering me since then, and now I'm back to square one of being paranoid about leaving the house or setting foot in town. What do you guys think though?
Was I right to run? Was it just the pot messing with my mind? Or what?
Drew.

Patrick's life is so exciting. I can't wait to hear more about how exciting it is to smoke pot at a bus stop. :bored:

I think what you did was the smart thing. I think you can't afford to take chances with your personal safety. You felt threatened and acted appropriately, staying there and finding out if you were paranoid seems a bit too much of a risk.

No one was smoking pot at a bus stop Alex. The only reason cannabis was brought up - was because I thought it may of been a contributing factor to the extreme paranoia I had that night.

You need to stand your ground or they'll never leave you alone
But yeah i would legged it too
I think pot or no pot, your gut instinct is usually right. If you sense something isn't right, then yeah, get the hell outta there.

To the people giving genuine feedback and letting me know what they would of done - cheers guys.
And yeah Karl, you have a point there tbh.

The second you were all friendly to the guy when you had someone with you , you certified yourself as his bitch tbh.
Enjoy :joker:.
Saying that. If you were on your own after you done the right thing.
Yrah, but don't stand your ground when alone..
..I don't think it's anything to do with being a coward Patrick, it's self preservation, you would be asking yourself far worse questions if you had just stayed there and they came back with a gang of others..you did the right thing and I'm glad you're ok....

You were outnumbered, They probably will take you as a bit of an easy target now tough.

Always go with your first instinct in these types of situations or who knows what might have happened, you certainly don't want to find out. If I see someone looking dodgy I'll immediately try and make a getaway.

The one where the girl gets locked in the house and they expect her to have sex with loads of guys?

you still havn't explained what you did to piss them off to begin with.
"I have stayed out of town for months, after becoming somewhat of a 'target' amongst several little groups and gangs in town - mostly down to nothing tbh."
what exactly is the "nothing" in the "mostly down to nothing"?
Drew.

You totally did the right thing Patrick, anytime, anywhere with anyone that you don't feel safe, get away from there as quick as you can to somewhere and someone you can feel safe with.

It's really tough. You did the right thing running TBH as these gangs don't fight fair but you need to look at the big picture and see why they are targeting you, you can't spend your life running, that's ****.
Wildcat!

I would have ran too, depending on the history behind the gang of course. If I knew they were capable, I wouldnt take any chances.
Vicky.

I would definitely run in that situation. However next time I saw the person(or people) on their own..when they were likely to be a bit nervous themselves as they didnt have the backup they so obviously need, I would kick the **** out of them.
Which is probably not the answer but thats how I am :joker:
Since its an ongoing problem by the sounds of it, I dont think it would make anything any worse :idc:

Are you in the area of Belfast where vigilante gangs shoot people in the kneecaps for dealing and taking drugs?

Of course, why has nobody thought of this sooner?
You're a genius Michael, nobody ever did anything they knew was against the law.

I love how the most detail Patty gave was about his "packed" spiff rather than the situation at hand. Hmmmm....

You brought shame upon yourself and your family
When in doubt, Patrick, Run. So at that time you did the right thing. However, if you were still feeling jumpy/paranoid or whatever else, why take the risk of smoking a heavy joint that is going to play on any paranoia, in a place where you might bump into any of that gang again? On the other hand, you can't virtually stay a prisoner in your own home either, the situation needs dealing with and probably the sooner the better.
I would definitely run in that situation. However next time I saw the person(or people) on their own..when they were likely to be a bit nervous themselves as they didnt have the backup they so obviously need, I would kick the **** out of them.

:joker: You should have stood your ground, after smoking all that weed you would have had the strength of 10 men..
On a serious note you should always follow your instinct.

Was I right to run? Was it just the pot messing with my mind? Or what?
Yes you were probably right to run when you did but the bolded bit screams out that you really should stop smoking green, you are just clearly one of those people that gets far too paranoid and basically becomes a hermit when your on it.
Just my opinion.

Of course you did the right thing. One person against a gang is not a fair fight.
