Stay off school/college/work at the faintest sign of a common cold or would you try and put up with it, only considering hitting the sack for a few days if you were genuinely quite ill (flu, bronchitis, etc)?

I rarely phone in sick, and I'd have to be pretty sick to do it. I did it a lot whe I was younger though
..I have very mixed feelings about this Redway...colds happen so often that you can't always take time away with them..but I also know how irritating it is when people come to school with their colds and then you have an epidemic in no time, and for some with asthma etc it can become hard to shake off...
I would not consider phoning in sick for a cold or a sore throat.. flu is a different story. Anybody who's actually had flu knows that getting up out of bed is almost impossible.
I do get pissed off at people who turn up at work eith sickness bugs etc.. you just know its going to go round everybody
..oh, you said at the faintest sign of one...not not that because it doesn't always develop further...

The old cold/flu debate. I've had flu a few times, and you're absolutely correct. The aches, constant shivering, and temperature fluctuation make it impossible to move, let alone work, but anyone phoning in sick with a cold is taking the piss.

The main thing for me is being cautious not to spread any germs, as Lee said (epidemic and all).
I suppose if I had a bad cough and mild sneezing sessions, I'd probably take a day or two to let it die down, so other people don't catch it...even if I was feeling relatively all right myself. Wouldn't bother not coming in over a sore throat or nasal congestion, though.

I don't like taking sick time off unless I'm genuinely ill. If I have something like a cold that I might infect the whole place with, I work from home if I can. As has been said a few times, if you've got the flu, you're not getting out of bed and work would be out of the question. I've only had it once and thought I was dying.

I never miss school or work. The worst feeling for me is that I missed something that others got. I think I missed one day in total in all my years at school and never missed work
