A woman was outraged after a Starbucks misspelled the name 'Virginia' as 'Vagina'.

The customer at the coffee shop in Hong Kong ranted on their Facebook page, calling the error "unacceptable".

"This is my sister's cuppa from your HKU branch," she posted. "Fancy your staff not being able to spell an American name like Virginia. Forgiving she has been with every misspelled cup.

"Her cup was once 'Virgin'. Every Starbucks experience for her has been coupled with fear and anticipation. But THIS is just UNACCEPTABLE.

"Starbucks HK, you have to buck up or just not spell your customer's name anyway. It is a derogatory attitude even if it is unintentional. What do you have to say about this?"

Reaction to the post from other Facebook users has been mixed, with some arguing that it is perhaps harsh to expect perfect spelling from local Chinese staff.

I'd lay a couple of quid on the fact that she'd struggle to spell the server's name in the native language. That's not a pop at Americans. I'm not suggesting there are many Brits that could. I just think this was a huge overreaction that should have been laughed off, and because such an issue was made it makes her look whiney and superficial.

actually Virginia as a name in America is a British name, after the "virgin" Queen Elizabeth I. That is what the state Virginia is named after, and where the proper name Virginia originates from in America. In the same way the name "Georgia" became the name of a state and a proper name for women in honor of King George II.

Regardless of the origin of it's usage in America (which I'm fully aware of), it's a Roman not American name. The word centre, while used in English, is a French word for example.

(Also Georgia is the feminine form of the Greek name George, so also not American)

An American name is one which originates in America (just as an English name is one that originates in England and a French one is one that originates in France), neither of those do, one originates in Italy and one originates in Greece. America is a country where they are in use, but they're in use all over the world, it's not a German name because they are also in use there. You can find pretty much any popular name, from anywhere in the world, in any populous country with outside influence.

3. England is not an island, England (along with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) is a constituent country in the sovereign state of the UK/Britain, which also isn't an island, Great Britain which makes up the majority of it, and which on England is situated is.
4. Great Britain is not a tiny island, it's the world's ninth largest and the second largest in Europe
5. Yes Britons originate from France (Brittany to be precise, hence Britons), just as the French originated from Germany, The Germans from Poland and Romania, and they from what is now Iraq and Turkey, and so on, back through Asia into Africa. All countries outside Sub-Saharan Africa are the result of migration, as you said we didn't just spring out of the ground, we no more owe our existence to the French than they do to the Germans and the Germans do to the Poles, we're all just different fractions of the group that left Africa.
