The body of a man - believed to be a burglar - has been found in a chimney at a Derby firm of solicitors.

The discovery was made at Moody and Woolley Solicitors on Wednesday after staff raised concerns about the smell and flies in the office.

Damage to the building in St Mary's Gate was first noticed six weeks ago when builders believed there had been an attempted break-in.

The body has now been removed by police who are trying to identify it.

OMG .....

I wonder how long he took to die and if he could cry for help ..... :conf:

Did he get stuck over a weekend when no-one could hear him ..... :puzzled:

SIX weeks of decomposition in a warm building ..... :yuk:

That stench must have been unbearable for those weeks until they discovered what it was

Apparently all the fireplaces were bricked up but he would not have known that and once he had descended the narrow flue he probably become stuck and could not climb back up. He probably couldn't even raise the alarm and without water would have died pretty quickly.

Very sad , must have been a terrible way to die like being buried alive just waiting for the end but hoping for rescue right up to those final moments.

I know he was a burglar but I feel sad for him and his family, no one deserves to die like that...!!!!

He must have had a heart attack or something similar? Shouldn't really have got himself in that situation in the first place...

I don't feel too much sympathy for him, but I do agree about it being a harrowing way to die.

the punishment for burglary is not death!
horrible way to die.

Being bitten to death by piranhas is not a nice way to die, but I would not throw myself in a swamp filled with them. Sometimes you reap what you sow...

He was trapped like a rat in a cage.

No body was punishing him with death, wtf are you talking about? He put himself in a dangerous situation hoping to take advantage of other people by stealing from them. No one did anything to him, this entire situation was entirely his own choice.

Ever heard of the Darwin awards?

Pretty awful way to go but I don't feel sorry for him. It was his own doing.

Ahh...awful way to die, regardless of what he was doing, he doesn't deserve to die in that way.

..yeah, he didn't deserve to die at all for being a burgler but that would be particularly terrifying and very prolonged for him as well, perhaps...that's really very tragic indeed..it seems like a strange thing to go in through the chimney though...
