Labour would offer tax breaks to persuade the private sector to pay a living wage as a way to boost productivity and cut welfare bills, Ed Miliband will propose on Saturday.

The Labour leader suggests that firms could be offered either tax reliefs on training or capital investment, or lower business rates, in return for paying the living wage

Sounds good to me..

I like the idea of a 'living wage'. I'm just a bit worried that everything will just inflate when peoples wages rise so that it doesnt really help anyone...

I like the sound of this too, a bit more clarification needed but a step in the right direction again.

Another "gimmick" which will no doubt line the pockets of company executives and investors while providing minimal benefit for those retained in employment but which will do nothing to create jobs for the increasing number of poverty-stricken unemployed ..... :hmph:
