Three US women who disappeared as teenagers a decade ago or more have been found alive in the state of Ohio, police say.

Amanda Berry disappeared aged 16 in 2003, while Gina DeJesus went missing at the age of 14 a year later.

The women were found in a house in the city of Cleveland, along with a third woman, Michele Knight, 32, who also vanished years ago, police confirmed.

A 52-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the case.

Cleveland police said the women, who were taken to hospital, are in good health. At least one of the women is reported to have a baby.

"I am thankful that Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight have been found alive," Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson said.

"We have many unanswered questions regarding this case and the investigation will be ongoing."

A witness told local news station WOIO that he saw a woman holding a baby run out of a house, screaming for help.

Crowds have reportedly gathered at the house where the women were being held.

Ms Berry was last heard from when she called her sister to say she would get a lift home from work at a Burger King restaurant.

In 2004, Ms DeJesus was said to be on her way home from school when she went missing.

The ladies are lucky to be alive to tell their harrowing stories .... :idc:

I dunno if I could handle being held captive that long, I'd probably kill myself.

Three young women who disappeared about a decade ago have been found alive in the US state of Ohio, police say.

Amanda Berry disappeared aged 16 in 2003, while Gina DeJesus went missing at the age of 14 a year later.

They and Michele Knight, 32, who vanished in 2002 at the age of 20, were found in a house in the city of Cleveland, police confirmed. All are said to be in good health in hospital.

A 52-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the case.

At least one of the women is reported to have a baby.

"I am thankful that Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight have been found alive," Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson said.

Ms Berry was last heard from when she called her sister to say she would get a lift home from work at a Burger King restaurant.

In 2004, Ms DeJesus was said to be on her way home from school when she went missing.

Their cases were re-opened last year when a prison inmate tipped authorities that Ms Berry may have been buried in Cleveland. He received a four-and-a-half years in prison for the false information.

I look at this story and am awestruck that these women could be held prisoner for so long. It almost defies belief, although the women in question are still alive I cannot begin to absorb the magnitude of this crime. To deprive these women of their freedom for so long is wicked and evil in the extreme and the pain and anger these women must have felt for their captors is probably off the scale.

Where would you my fellow posters rate this crime...?? Simple kidnapping or a crime up there with rape and murder.

I'm lost on this one because the evil nature of this crime is incomprehensible ...!!!

So now Murder is also part of this sad saga, with at least 5 missing babies it does look like perhaps at least some of them may have been murdered.

I guess all the details of this horrific crime will start to come out now. I can only imagine the vast amounts of counselling that will now be required for these women to come to terms with the extent of their incarceration and the impact of having their babies taken from them...

Surely all it would take for the authorities to charge the other two brothers with complicity in this crime would be any testimony from any of the 3 woman that they saw these other two men at any time in those last ten years.

Are we saying that these two brothers never went to this house or spent any time whatsoever in this house, they never went downstairs, they never heard a sound and they never, ever saw any of these women or heard them or their babies cry or saw anything untoward ???

I find this almost impossible to believe........!!!!!

We all do wrong. Some alot worse than others like he did. Don't get on your high horse though. Ain't right what he done, but it was a long time ago and he's clearly realised how wrong it was when he was desperate to help the woman as he thought she was suffering from domestic abuse herself.

Only thing as cowardly as woman beaters (for me anyway)are people who like belittling people on things they done a long time ago and have learned from it to probably become better people. Hate it and hate people like that.
