Arsenal Football Club is an English Premier League football club based in Holloway, London. One of the most successful clubs in English football, it has won 13 First Division and Premier League titles and 10 FA Cups. Arsenal holds the record for the longest uninterrupted period in the English top flight and would be placed first in an aggregated league of the entire 20th century.[2] It is the second side to complete an English top flight season unbeaten (in the 2003–04 season), and the only one to do so across 38 matches.
Arsenal was founded in 1886 in Woolwich and in 1893 became the first club from the south of England to join the Football League. In 1913, it moved north across the city to Arsenal Stadium in Highbury. In the 1930s the club won five League Championship titles and two FA Cups. After a lean period in the post-war years it won the League and FA Cup Double, in the 1970–71 season, and in the 1990s and first decade of the 21st century won two more Doubles and reached the 2006 UEFA Champions League Final. Arsenal has a long-standing rivalry with North London neighbours Tottenham Hotspur, with whom it contests the North London derby. Arsenal is the fourth most valuable association football club in the world as of 2012, valued at $1.3 billion.[3]

How is it great? Wenger has signed a few players like him recently (Chamack, podolski etc) I doubt he's gonna be better.
One of three thingds will happen here either
a) He's a big success and stays at the club till he retires - Not very likely in my book.
b) He's completely useless but we cant sell him - much more likely than a)
c) He has a couple of decent seasons catches the eye of europes top clubs and is off to one of them after a couple of years - The most likely outcome IMO.
I don't like the fact we're signing him on free either. Chamack came on a free and look what happened there.

He'll hide behind the excuse that arsenal cant pay the same money as the Euro elite even though two years ago arsenals wage bill was the 4th highest in the premiership and we are comfortably the most expensive club to watch in the Premiership.

I'm so disillusioned with Wenger that I cant even believe half the bullsh*t he spouts.
He claims he's happy to be in the ECL even though we stand absolutely no chance of winning it but he rubbishes Chelseas win in the Europa league as being a meaningless competition. Does he want to win things or does he want to balance the books each year. Which is more important to him?

Wenger admits Arsenal did not sign Gareth Bale because they already had.. Gael Clichy!
Who knew, when he was just a leggy young left-back at Southampton, that Gareth Bale was to become one of the world's hottest properties?
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger didn't, and turned down the chance to sign Bale for buttons alongside his then fellow Saints wonderteen Theo Walcott - a decision Wenger has now admitted was "a huge mistake".
Speaking to the Sun newspaper, the rueful Frenchman confessed: “We didn’t take him [Gareth Bale] as we had Ashley Cole and Gael Clichy and didn’t want another left-back.
“I must confess it was a huge mistake as he can play in midfield. He struggled at the start at Tottenham, then they moved him to midfield and he has done exceptionally well.
“The career of a player sometimes depends on playing in the right position.”
The player Wenger opted to sign - Walcott - has famously had to lobby hard for the Gunners gaffer to re-imagine HIM as operating in a more central role.
That positional switch became part of Walcott's most recent extended contract wrangling and has since been implemented to varying degrees - which at least suggests that Arsene isn't too old to live and learn (though having a gun to his head helps...)
Looking back at the 2006 Bale-Walcott 'wonderteen choice' in pure money terms there still seems to be only likely winner: Tottenham.
Arsenal got Walcott for an initial £5million in 2006, and ended up paying Saints something just over £9m after cutting a deal over previous terms.
Tottenham got Bale for an initial £5million in 2007, later cut a deal on terms as well, meaning they paid Saints around £7m.
LINK (http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/arsenal-transfer-news-gareth-bale-1930533)
People say Wenger is a premiership legend and Arsenal should never sack him. Was a Premiership legend but not anymore. This article sums up Wengers transfer policy for the last 6 or 7 years.
Note the bit about Walcotts contract extension. So is it in Walcotts contract that he has to play upfront? I don't even want to contemplate the thought that Theo bleedin Walcott gets to pick and choose where he plays.

Looks a bit like the Sweden kit but pretty cool nonetheless. Excited for Arsenal's game against Cardiff. It'll be interesting for Ramsey considering he made his debut in Cardiff and everything.

Arsenal fans question Arsene Wenger's future as manager
Arsene Wenger should not be offered a new contract as Arsenal boss, according to the Arsenal Supporters' Trust (AST).
The Gunners have not spent any money in the transfer window and lost 3-1 at home to Aston Villa on the opening day.
"Chief executive Ivan Gazidis has spoken of the intent to offer Wenger a new contract. We believe this is inappropriate," read an AST statement.
"The entire focus must be on using the remaining days of the transfer window to strengthen the team significantly."
"Arsenal supporters pay some of the highest ticket prices in world football, providing the club with considerable financial resources, but the ambition and ability to use them appear to be missing.
"The fact that there is money available for squad-strengthening is not disputed. The AST's independent analysis suggests that the amount is somewhere between £70m-£100m."
It also wants American owner Stan Kroenke to take decisive action.
"Stan Kroenke does not attend many Arsenal matches nor seem to have the time to devote to the affairs of Arsenal," the statement continued.
"But it is clear to all that the football personnel he is ultimately responsible for are failing. The AST calls on him to appoint an independent expert to conduct a review of all football functions at Arsenal.
"Clearly the interaction between our scouting, negotiating and player purchasing processes are failing and need urgent improvement.
"A decision on whether to offer an extension to the manager's contract, which ends in May 2014, should only be taken following the closing of the transfer window and assessment of the team's performances.
"Considerable improvement must be shown for us to be convinced this should happen."
The AST is the club's official supporters trust and has about 1100 members, including many small shareholders.
Wenger was appointed Arsenal manager in October 1996 and his contract ends in May 2014.

Everything went against us - Wenger
Arsenal have told BBC Sport that they will not be commenting on the AST statement.
The club qualified for the Champions League in each of the past 16 campaigns but their most recent trophy was the 2005 FA Cup.
After securing fourth place in the Premier League on the final day of last season, Gazidis revealed the board was ready to spend big after an "escalation in our financial firepower" created by new television and sponsorship deals.
But Arsenal's only summer signing to date is the 20-year-old French striker Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer from Ligue 1 side Auxerre, with numerous players leaving the Emirates Stadium.
The AST has called on the club to invest some of their available money - they have a reported cash balance of £154m, which is almost as much as the rest of the other 19 clubs in the Premier League combined.
"Ambitious football clubs invest the money they receive from their fans, and sometimes their owners, to make themselves stronger," said the AST.

WOW. Finally these people are saying what I was saying 3 years ago. Cant believe they were gonna offer Wenger a contract extension when she's signed no one this off season.
Also, it looks like the rumours are true and Arsenal do actually have about 100 million to spend. WTF is Wenger waiting for. Quite literally, I'd like to know what he is waiting for?
We offered 10 million for Cabaye on Sunday. 10 million for an established international, Premier league player and Newcastle Vice captain. No wonder no one takes us seriously in the transfer market and no wonder Luis Guistavo picked Wolfberg - a team that finished 11th in the Bundesliga last season - over us. We are a joke. Its now official.

people say be careful what you wish for but i honestly think its time we got someone else in.. i dont know who though. We've always had money to spend, now more than ever and its just sitting there, its a joke and we've been an embarrassment this transfer window.. Higuain for instance was more than happy to come over here and quite keen on the idea but we refused to match Napoli's bid. The Cabaye bid was a complete joke, i felt on par yesterday with how i felt when we signed Arteta.. wasnt really excited by it at all. Good player but hes not going to help us improve that much.

I thought those yes men would be telling us all to calm down and give the board time. Seems they've run out of patience too.
I don't really know how I want us to do this year. If we do well Wenger will use it as an excuse to paper over the cracks and say the squad is fine like he's done for the past few seasons.

most Wenger out polls iv seen have either been 50/50 about him leaving or in favour of him going.. dont think iv seen one yet that has the option "no" winning..
Same, i'm not even sure if i want us to qualify for the CL at the moment.. with the squad we've got we wont be able to handle it and that just means we'll slip up in the league more and i cant see us signing players on the same level as what Spurs are doing at the moment.. its going to be a long long season.

If we fail to qualify we go into the Europa which I think we could reach the semi or even the final. Depending on the draw of course. We need to avoid all of the European elite teams but if we do then we might do OK. Not sure if I want that cuz I think Wenger will become even more stubborn if we actually do well in a competition.
Its actually quite scary at the number of players we have let go and yet only signed one player on a free. OK most of the players who have left were not good enough but they wer better than nothing.
Heard about Bendtner?. Apparently he's not prepared to take a pay cut to play for another team. Apparently he's on about 80k a week. Cant imagine if he were a Man Utd player that he'd be on that kind of money. Anyway, at the age of 25 he'd rather sit on the bench and draw his money every week instead of playing for anyone else. Its the signing of this kind of attitude that has killed our club.

I know it's only 3 games in but he's only scored 1
he's pissed off with the club/florentino as it is I don't know why they're continuing to piss him off when they want him to sign a new contract (which he's not going to sign lets be honest)
Getting him to sign a new contract was more important than buying Bale, or any of the other players they bought
Unless they finally cba with Ronaldo anymore and are planning without him, they can be just as good without him I suppose

i watched a video to remind myself of all the goals Bale scored last season and with the defences in La Liga not exactly the sharpest defences in the world i can see him destroying so many teams over there.. his pace and strength is frightening and his finishing from outside the box and from set pieces was immense.. even with 1 on 1's he tucked it away nicely, wouldnt be surprised to see him scoring more goals than Ronaldo.
and i think Isco can score as many as Ozil has but he wont get nowhere near the same amount of assists

He's on another level, he does things with the ball nobody else in our team can do. Ramseys form right now is pretty special and a lot of it has come from his partnership with Ozil but on a consistent and match to match basis Ozil is one of the most consistent players in the world. Since hes joined he's probably contributed the most offensively, assisting all 3 goals in 1 match and creating most of Ramseys opportunities and then Flamini has been our main guy defensively.. but yeah, i wont stop praising Ozil anytime soon. While I think Bale is a very good player and I think he has slightly more about him than Ronaldo, I just don't see anyone apart from Messi competing with Ronaldo's goal scoring ability.
I think that you could have Ronaldo playing as a one man team and he would score at least one goal.

I've always found it odd that footballers get married before their mid 30's. They travel around with millions of pounds and girls throwing themselves at them. Why not enjoy your career then settle down when it's finished?

Let's be real. I would wager a huge number of footballers do this even if it is wrong. Very silly getting caught like this though.

Question - Do you think Arsenal will finish 4th and if they don't finish 4th should Wenger resign and more importantly WILL Wenger resign?
Drew.
07-04-2014, 01:56 PM
Yeah i think we'll come 4th.. Moyes will want to get one over on his old club when they meet and City will be fighting for the title so i can see Everton slipping up, it'll be close though. Even if we do get 4th i think Arsenes time is up, Get the FA cup and leave on a high.

Even if we do get 4th i think Arsenes time is up, Get the FA cup and leave on a high.I agree. One thing though, you're theory is based on us winning while Everton lose. Judging by yesterday I would not assume that we can beat anyone. Especially not in the top half of the table. We can only beat teams in the bottom half who have nothing to play for. To be brutally honest, I think Wenger should apologise to all Arsenal away supporter for the fact that we cant stop any of the top clubs scoring at least three goals against us away from home. The away from this year has been a joke.
Even if he doesn't win the FA cup Wenger got to think about the future. Wenger is 64 now, birthday in October. I don't want to see 66 years old Wenger still at arsenal; I barely want to see 65 years old Wenger at Arsenal. I'd like to know why he thinks he deserves a new contract that will make him the highest paid manager in the premier league when its clear other manager are overtaking him if not already past him. eg Rodger, martinez etc. I doubt either of them would be demanding the best part of 8 million a years when they settle for 4th, going out of every competition at the 1/4 final phase and cant be arse to buy any players.
Drew.
07-04-2014, 02:45 PM
Luckily all of our remaining fixtures bar Norwich on the final day are against teams either out of form or that have nothing to play for though. Everton face 2 sides trying to avoid relegation, a side fighting for the league and their ex manager so we've got the upper hand.. By the time we have our next PL fixture Ramsey should be nearer to full fitness, Koscienly should be back and possibly Ozil so i'm pretty confident but it wouldn't shock me considering how well Everton are playing right now if we did finish 5th.
I'm all for a new manager now but i can't think of any realistic names that could take over that i'd be happy with.. Klopp is the only one and that's not really likely.
Brother Leon
07-04-2014, 03:03 PM
We're not beating Everton :joker:
Once we lose to Bayern we are officially done for the season and planning the summer hold/World cup.

Everton aren't suddenly world beaters  Moyes will want to do anything not to lose against them, especially twice this season.

Everton look a lot better than us or United. They are a club going places. Strange thing is Wenger has earmarked martinez to take over at arsenal but why would he leave everton if he finishes above Arsenal?
Wenger just aint hungry enough anymore and he needs to accept the club needs to look to the future.
Drew.
07-04-2014, 03:59 PM
They have massively improved and will probably continue to get better under Martinez, But they haven't exactly destroyed teams this season. They've conceded pretty much every game and have quite a few wins by 1 goal margins, Still think they are more likely to slip up from now until the end of the season.. Saying that, if we lose next Saturday then the players won't be focused at all and we'll pretty much hand 4th to Everton.
We've had no tactics going into any of the games this season. He just seems to sit their on the bench without doing anything even though we're getting completely outdone and its obvious a change is needed, he's lost the plot this year. I can't think of any occasions where hes out smarted another manager tactically this season.
King Gizzard
07-04-2014, 04:04 PM
Can see them slumping next season, or staying the same. They have a glass ceiling which is pushing for the champions league but I don't think they can go beyond that..and they'll inevitably have to sell Barkley in 2-3 years. Also wonder if they can the a decent Lukaku replacement
Drew.
07-04-2014, 04:07 PM
Wouldn't shock me if someone snapped Coleman up too (although i can't think of any teams that need him) but he's had an amazing season. And then Distin will be retiring soon but they've got Stones coming through who will be great.
Drew.
07-04-2014, 04:14 PM
I take that back, we need Coleman.
