Singer George Michael was airlifted to hospital with a head injury following a crash on the M1.
Paramedics were called to junction 6A, near St Albans, in Hertfordshire, at about 17:50 BST on Thursday.
A spokesman for Michael confirmed the 49-year-old had been involved in an accident, but said the singer only had "superficial cuts" and was "fine".
Michael was a passenger in a Range Rover and no other vehicles were involved, the spokesman added.
Connie Filippello said: "George Michael was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a traffic accident yesterday evening. No third party was involved.
Carriageway closed
"We have no further comment at this time."
Ambulance spokesman Gary Sanderson said: "The man who we believe to be in his 40s sustained a head injury and following treatment, stabilisation and immobilisation by land and air ambulance crews, he was flown to hospital for further care."
Hertfordshire Police said the northbound carriageway of the road was closed for an hour while emergency services dealt with the incident.
A force spokesman said: "The exact circumstances of what happened are unclear at this time and until further investigations have been carried out it would be inappropriate for us to comment further."
It seems that George is just "unlucky" in cars, even when a passenger ....
Best wishes for a speedy recovery .....

Singer George Michael is being kept in hospital for treatment after sustaining head injuries on the M1 in Hertfordshire, his spokeswoman said.
Michael, whose real name is Georgios Panayiotou, was airlifted to a specialist trauma centre in London.
A spokeswoman for the star said he was "making good progress".
His spokeswoman said: "Following the traffic accident on Thursday, we can confirm that he is still in hospital.
"We are keen to stress it's purely as a precaution for observation.
"He did suffer a couple of bumps and bruises to the head and that's why they are keeping him in - to keep an eye on him.
"He is doing better. He is making good progress and is looking forward to getting out."
A Hertfordshire Police spokeswoman said officers were unaware of any damage to the Range Rover and confirmed no other vehicles were involved.
Its getting weird .....
No other vehicle involved, no damage to the vehicle, no mention of any injury to the driver, but George with head trauma ..... :suspect:

Pop legend George Michael lay bleeding on the M1 after a car crash, a woman who stopped to help him has said.
Katherine Fox, 23, from Dunstable, sat with the former Wham! star after the smash near St Albans last week.
She stopped her car to help the stricken singer after "seeing a body lying in the road".
But the receptionist has admitted that until she read the BBC News website later on, she had no idea who it was she had acted Good Samaritan for.
Ms Fox waited for the emergency services with Michael, 49, after the Range Rover in which he was a passenger was involved in the crash near junction 6A in Hertfordshire last Thursday.
He was airlifted to a specialist trauma centre in London for treatment to head injuries.
'Blood everywhere'
Ms Fox described how she was on her way home from work, when the traffic in front of her started to slow down.
"I was driving in the third lane of the motorway and had to slam my brakes on and go between the third and fourth lane," she said.
"At that point I looked back and saw a body lying in the road so I stopped my car because no-one except the car behind me had stopped."
She said she reversed her Mini so that Michael was "protected" between her vehicle and another, got out and went into "caring mode".
Ms Fox said the singer was already being comforted by another man, who she believed had been in the car with him.
She said although there was "blood everywhere", Michael was conscious.
Well done, her .....

Poor George. This pattern of behaviour is not working. He needs to change it.
I thought the thread was the title of a song at first, though George will probably write a song about it now. Hope he is ok though.
This seems really weird... hope he's not got any personal problems going on, this doesn't seem like a normal accident
