View Full Version : Poll: It Is Time TIBB Offcially Decide Who The Sporting GOAT Is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Legend killer

Right from my sporting knowledge I have weighed up the pros and cons of each contender and decided who the GOAT was in that chosen sport. I could have gone into further sports but have decided to stick to sports which are most discussed on this board
The List in no order
NFL - JERRY RICE
Darts - Phil Taylor
NBA - Shaq O'Neal
Athletics - Michael Johnson
Football - Pele
Tennis - Roger Federer
Boxing - Floyd Mayweather JR
Cricket - Donald Bradman/Shane Warne
F1 - Michael Schumacher
Snooker - Ronnie O'Sullivan
Horse Racing - Tony McCoy
Golf - Tiger Woods
WWE - Triple H/Goldust
Notice I have 2 for cricket as a batsman and bowler both deserve acknowledgement. Just to point out I had Lara just behind Bradman and McGrath just behind Warne
Again I have 2 for Wrestling as I could not separate the two and although I have not watched in about 7 years this was during the golden era so I can say with confidence the has been no one better since
I have no woman as I count them as Men's equals and in the sports listed they are not close to being the GOAT
Me personally the GOATING top 3 goes like this
1.Floyd Mayweather
2. Shaq O'Neal
3. Ronnie O'Sullivan
I would like a lot of votes so we can safely say who TIBB think is the GOAT.
I have added the other option as I appreciate freedom of speech that said in the sports we are discussing there are no viable candidates for the GOAT role so although I will listen to your opinion it will not be processed
Toss up between Vika and Ally Mccoist

Also as good as he was I would put quite a few players above Warne; Sobers, Botham, Viv Richards, Tendulkar, Lara, Murali etc.
Legend killer
19-05-2013, 06:46 PM
As I said MTVN I separated batters and bowlers. So that already takes Tendulkar.Richards and Lara out the equation as Bradman owns all off them combined. For reference I have Lara ahead of Tendulker
Murali i'm sorry but you can't be serious. Bowls with an illegal action which the authorities bent to rules around just to accommodate. To Boot he bowled in spin friendly condition more often then not whilst Warne was bowling in seam friendly pitches. What makes me LOVE Warne was his last ashes series. With McGrath down the bowling attack was so pathetic that Shane had to bowl with the bloody new ball and he Was fuken amazing with it nearly forcing victories from the jaws of defeat

Also Henry Shefflin will always be the undisputed GOAT but I will leave that for another day

Fair enough I did not see the seperation and it is good that you have Lara above Tendulkar, still though Murali has more test wickets at a better average from fewer matches, hard to argue with that, plus they've reviewed his actions many times and found it legal. Murali had to pretty much carry that Sri Lanka to become as good a team as they were, Warne was playing for Australia when they were comfortably the best side in the world and had by far the strongest batting line up giving him a much more comfortable position
Legend killer
19-05-2013, 07:09 PM
You say more comfortable postion but like I said Murali 95% of the time would have bowled in much more spin friendly conditions then Warne. Also I would put a huge amount of Money or Murili having bowled a fair majority more overs then Warne any way we can find this out???
Legend killer
19-05-2013, 07:13 PM
Also the carrying part??? What exactly did he carry them too??? Put Warne in his place and they win a major tourney in that time
Well the benefit Warne got from the strength of the Aussie's line up at least balances out Murali's advantage from playing in more spin friendly conditions, like you said you almost put McGrath in the poll but Sri Lanka didn't have any bowlers near his level to support Murali. The Aussies could just have McGrath and Gillespie take the wickets off most of the top order and then Shane just comes in and bowls at the rabbits, Murali had to do most of it by himself
Murali has bowled just under 7340 overs, 800 wickets at an average of 22.72
Warne has bowled 6784 overs, 708 wickets at an average of 25.41
That's in tests of course, can't be bothered to compare for other formats, pretty close but Murali edges it
Legend killer
19-05-2013, 07:37 PM
Well played for finding out the overs I could not be bothered lol
So talking tests alone that's a difference of 556 overs for 92 wickets so that's a difference of something like 3300 and something balls that's a HUGE DIFFERENCE if we are being totally honest for just 92 wickets
Also those who have voted other bloody state who that other is
Legend killer
19-05-2013, 07:37 PM
Also in the one day's I think the difference may be even greater TBH
Legend killer
19-05-2013, 07:42 PM
Would love to know who voted for Shaq have a sneaky feeling it was SOBIG
But going by what he achieved before Warne got a wicket just less than every 10 overs, so even if he had bowled those 556 overs he wouldn't have reached Murali's wicket total. Plus Murali bowled that many more overs in actually less tests than Warne which shows how much Sri Lanka relied on him
But anyway that is no disrespect to Shane, they are both great bowlers, Warne was the main reason I started out as a leg spinner until I realised I could barely turn the ball. Murali just edges it for me though

No Michael Jordan? Your poll loses credibility right there.
Shaq aint even as good as Hakeem Olajuwan, Moses Malone, Wilt, Bill Russell etc. When you talk seriously about the greatest of all time you need to put a bit more thought into it. Sorry.

20-05-2013, 02:38 PM

To put the Ronnie vs Hendry argument into simple context
PAST HIS PRIME Ronnie is playing at a level that would match or even better prime Hendry every other game
Go look at Hendry's head to head against Ronnie and Higgins?? Steven is a very good player but his WEAK ERA made him look that much better and his head to head vs Ronnie and John proves this I am afraid

I would say coming back and winning the WC in an era where pundits rave about it being the strongest EVER without playing a match in a year is as easy as it comes
Like I said most of Stevens success can be attributed to have Ken and Jimmy bottle job white as your main comp

How did this go for you :joker::joker:
Most of the Royals are probably in the bookies pockets, just lucky that only three were caught

The fact we should have beat a team that spent MILLIONS more then us is an unreal achievement if Hodge had caught that in the 19th we would have
Only reason you even came close was cos Mumbai imploded and nearly bottled it when they had been cruising to victory, the Royals shouldn't have got anywhere near that 160 odd total they did get as well if Malinga hadn't also self destructed in his last over

You do realise we gave Mumbai 20 runs from misfields right?? Not even mentioning the extras from wides etc which more then cancels Malinga's over out (which was due to pressure from yagnik and Hodge) while are mistakes were all our own fault
MUST make you mad watching a team of flat track bullies like RCB

No can't say I count how many runs each team gives away in every innings by each individual fielding error, but even if that's true I don't really see how the fact you gave away a lot of silly runs mean prove you deserved to go through to the final lol. Lots of little things can be pinpointed but let's be fair, Mumbai are the better team in all honesty
And RCB were easily the most entertaining team this season, just didn't have quite strong enough a bowling attack and bottled it at some key moments. Still had this seasons best two batsmen though

It doesn't but you were being very bitter and tried to point to Malinga's over at the end as the only reason we got such a score I was just pointing out without our silly fielding mistakes (20 runs worth) they would not have achieved such a score either
And LOOOOOL at Kohli being better then Watson and Hussey.Sure Kohli and Gayle scored plenty of runs on the lovely flat track of Bangalore but when it mattered on less batter friendly pitches Kohli in particular was no where too be seen

Haha I suppose you weren't watching our last game then, reduced to 8 overs, up against the best team in the League Chennai, needing a win to have any chance of qualifying, and Kholi comes out and plays a masterclass innings
Sign of a true champion right there, can see the guy captaining India in a couple of years

MICHAELJORDANLAUGHING.GIF I think it is quite apparent you did not watching the game good sir
1. It was 8 OVERS LOOOL. He had no choice but too come out swinging thankfully for him it came off but if it were the full 20 overs would he have been mentally tough enough to plan his innings when he did have a choice of how quick he had to play??? Judging by your finishing position I think not
2. LOOOOL Chennai could not even be bothered to move Dhoni up the order to chase a HUGE score that's how bothered they were about the win
FLAT TRACK BULLIES NO MORE NO LESS
Obviously it meant he had to bat quickly, that doesnt mean it's easy to adapt to such a drastically shortened game. You could say its harder, when you've been playing 20 overs the last month you know how to time your innings, what a good target and run rate is etc All that goes out the window when the game is then more than halved. Plus Kohli isn't even an opener, yet he put himself up the order and it's pretty impressive to be the dominant run scorer in a partnership with Chris Gayle

I would personally say it's easier. As it such a short innings you don't have decsions to make such as should I see off this bowler and should I play a few balls to get my eye in before I start swinging. You know you have to attack every ball so there is no uncertainty in your shot/decision making. Having AB coming in after you also helps release any pressure on you too boot
