Are there any stereotypes that annoy you?

My big one is how the media always portrays gay guys as flouncy, camp, with crazy ass hair styles etc etc.

It really annoys me, because only half the gay guys are like this. :bored:

Mostly all the gender stereotypes, I hate when people are lumped into certain categories of behaviours (?) just because of what sex they happen to be, we're all individuals

It annoys me how gay men are portrayed on TV. Always ridiculously camp. I know 1 gay guy like that all my other gay friends are not camp at all.

Conservative Party voters are all heirs to lots of property, land and are probably distant royalty and they're all really posh. It's become so cartoonish in recent years it's borderline ridiculous. Yes, people like that do exist, but the way people go on you'd think the Conservative Party somehow tricked their way into power and the UK is being oppressed by them. Really irritates me.

most sterotypes though are stereotypes for a reason.

i only dislike people who enjoy living up to them. big brother is a good example of that.
with some of the people they get in there. i.e rylan is a walking stereotype people like that annoy me.

I don't know anyone who feels that way?
I have heard that said about footie fans, but not all men.

Basically the same that Vicky and Kizzy have posted, never seen any of those stereotypes really apart from sex obsessed but again that was about all guys regardless of sexual preference

Mines to do with my dog and the stereotypes that follow her and other breeds around.

I have a rottweiler and people just assume she's a bloodthirsty hound who'd rip your arm off as soon as look at you.

Other types of dogs, mainly pitbulls and staff's get the same treatment too. Its not the dog that's the **** when it bites someone, its the owner and the piss poor way its been brought up.

I'm guilty of doing this, but I do agree it's the owners fault.

I still wouldn't trust a dog, as it takes 1 second for them to change but no, I do agree it's how they are brought up

It was nothing to do with the owner he is a neighbour and an experienced owner, my daft lab looked it in the eye as they passed... It was a dominance thing, really scary.

It's really not fair how people are always going on about how smart and industrious asian people are. I went to a boarding school that was like 25% kids from china, and they were without a doubt the laziest and dumbest race there.

You seem to tar all rottweilers with the same brush then? Seems to me your neighbour needs a few more lessons in how to look after a rottweiler.

Really? I think maybe you're confusing posh with British.

Like Christine Baranski can have quite a posh sounding voice which is still distinctly American, which seems to portray wealth and power.

Otherwise, I agree with you about wealthy people being stereotyped with posh accents.

Also, speaking of British in American movies, we're always the villains. :D :p

Glenn.

Our next door neighbour has a rottweiler and it is soft as muck. Its scared of their kitten actually

That said I can see why they get a bad name, as there ARE a lot of bad ones around. A guy in our street when was growing up had one and it savaged some blokes arm for no reason..it was nothing to do with the owner..he had had loads of dogs and they were all soft and obedient.

Glenn.
24-05-2013, 01:18 AM
I'm not disputing that some of them go wrong and do bite people. Its just when things like that happen, its just assumed all rottweilers are beasts, and they're not. Mine's scared of her own shadow.

She was in the garden in the week and the wind blew the black bag in my wheelie bin and she run a mile

Oh I know, it just read strangely "either British or American with a posh accent", so I just put British.

24-05-2013, 02:01 AM
not enough regional accents in movies, especially american movies.........all brits end up having to speak posh english or american........so no geordies, no scousers, no welsh, no strong yorkshire, no mancunian accents, few scots, no west country accent, no brummie accents etc etc though we do get orish accent as theres so many irish in america its seen as a cool accent........then british movies end up with 99% bland posh accents as in harry potter , narnia movies or the latest charlie and the chocolate movie.....bring back regional accents its part of what makes britain great imho

the generalization that all dogs are good is profoundly dangerous....clearly there are a vast number raised poorly by dodgy owners.....innocent people should not be under any threat from dangerous dogs, so people should keep them on leads in public places.....either that or we start licensing...

have to say too some dog owners who walk their dogs round and round and round in circles and talk about nothing but their canines need to get a life
