A woman has been arrested for wearing a thong on a beach in North Carolina.

Tiara Monique Garness was charged with indecent exposure and taken to jail on Myrtle Beach.

It is currently illegal to wear a thong on the beach and the arrest report states that Garness was asked twice by officers to cover up.

Garness was taken to the Myrtle Beach Jail on a $469 (£310) cash bond.

The Myrtle Beach laws state: "Swimwear is subject to city ordinances in Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, and Surfside Beach. It is illegal for anyone to wear a thong bathing suit."
