View Full Version : Bring a New Perspective to Panel

I was thinking about all the judges we've had in the past, and we've only ever had two types of opinions on the panel.

Kelly/Cheryl/Danni/Tulisa/Nicole/Gary: Artists opinion
Simon/Louis/Sharon: Manager/Producer opinion

How about bringing on a music critic to sit on the panel. It takes away from the whole 'big name judge' element, but I think past series (UK and USA) have proven that the bigger names don't actually work.

A music critic would basically just be bringing their profession to TV if they joined the show, as they criticise the contestants. Could be entertaining because they'd be bound to be quite harsh with the contestants.

Opinions on this? Any other job titles which would be suited to judge the show aside from managers/producers/artists?

If they do that then the public won't watch

I see your point, but the panel would still have artists on it too, just with this fresh opinion added.

Simon was near to unknown when he started to be a judge, but yet because he was good at it, people watched.

I don't think big names attract big ratings, look at The X Factor USA flopping with Britney on it.

If someone is a good judge and is entertaining regardless of their 'star power', then I think ratings would slowly improve.

The show is isn't even about talent anymore

If it's not about the talent, and is more about the entertainment, a music critic could be really entertaining with harsh comments. Could come across as it being all about the talent and music with the appointment, but could turn out to be entertaining.

I agree with you; someone being a big name popstar doesn't mean they'll be entertaining or good at the job on the X Factor. Someone whose job is to critique singers and singing would be much better for the job, hopefully they'd have a fun personality to boot.
