I rang it once years ago when I lived with my mum and dad and I came home early to find the house being burgled. The burglar was still upstairs but heard me come in and legged it. I rang and it took the police 3 hours to come.

Yup. Once when my grandmas house was on fire
Once when my mothers partner was trying to kill her. Took the police about half an hour to get there..luckily I had a knife to HIS throat by that point. Unusually, they never questioned me officially on that, but that may have been because they could clearly see that my mother had been badly beaten.

Yep, a few times. I've rung them a couple of times for fires breaking out in houses/building near me. I've rung them once when sheep had escaped a field and where all on the railway track and I've one dialled 999 by accident on my phone when it was on my pocket. The only reason I noticed is because they rung me back to ask if everything was okay.

No, he doesnt remember it at all. Well. He remembers the guy throwing his vodka bottle across the room but thats because I locked him (and my sister) in their rooms pretty much immediately then went back downstairs :/

...aww, so well done for not panicking and taking care of your siblings as well as your mum, really Vicky you are someone that anyone would want to have around in an emergency...are you a really cool and controlled person in general with everything..?...

Twice.
Once when me and my mates were kids, and there was a drunk guy collapsed on the pavement.
And the 2nd time when my brother broke my leg.

Bloody hell, what will you ring them for next, when a hen gets out of its coop?
Vicky.

..that was probably a good thing with that incident though because it would have helped you take control of the situation once your brother and sister were ok and keep him from hurting your mum more..also from hurting you, sometimes it's good to have a temper and it wasn't extreme because you didn't actually hurt him or worse, which would have had consequences for you, even though it kind of would have been understandable as well....it sounds as though you had the perfect balance of anger and calm, Vicky....

Yeah I guess. The police advice for if the same thing happened in the future though..was not to do what I did as I apparently put myself and my mum in 'more' danger. To try and get my mum out of there instead..
Because that would have worked brilliantly eh? Why didnt I think of that

Many times, In the main for an ambulance.
I did for my Grandmother when she collapsed while I was out with her.
Also for ambulances for a good friend who was severely brain damaged in a car accident years ago, he often had seizures that required urgent hospital attention so 999 was the way to get him there as near immediately as possible.
We lost him though a couple of months back.
Have also called 999 for the Police and fire service too for others.

..that's a 'perfect theory' though and what you did was just as effective and yeah, maybe the police aren't allowed to praise you for it because there are lots of potential dangers with it but none of them happened and you effectively did get your mum, siblings out of danger, so for you and them, it was perfect....your mum and all of your family must be really proud of you...

It was very sad but 2 ways of looking at it really, nothing was going to change and he was many times greatly distressed and frustrated at the things he now couldn't do.
I learned a great deal from him though as to realising the little problems that turn up in my life were nothing compared to all he went through and still he tried his best to carry on and give a smile too.

..I think everyone's problems are important Joey because they're important to them, it's just that some people are given slightly bigger ones and not all can be solved..or at least not the way you would like them to...

There were literally a hundred sheep on the track, and by a river. I was doing my duty by letting them know so they could let the farmer know so as to reduce disruption. :hmph:
A simple 'shoo' and a waving of your hands should have done the trick
Yes I had to ring them when I was 15 because one of my brothers and his friend were attacked, my brother had been stabbed and one of his lungs was punctured but he was trying his best to hide it from me and just trying to help his friend who had been hit on the head with some sort of shovel, I only noticed the state my brother was in when he turned round and his shirt was drenched with blood thats when I ran to phone 999, thankfully they were really fast to respond though, the police, cid, and ambulances were there within what felt like seconds.

No, but we'd had coppers turning up on the doorstep when my brother's messed about on the phone and dialled it by accident.
The policeman then acts suspiciously with my mum, asked her 5 times if "she was sure she was ok" bless. I think he thought she was being held hostage or something.

Once when my mother started Completely hyperventilating, turning red and losing energy. They were pretty useless and told me to do stuff I had already done and then told me they will send someone. They rang back a good 20mins later when she settled down and went to sleep asking if I still needed an Ambulance...my answer was two not very nice words tbh.

This thread has shown there are some incredible experiences from members.
Vicky and Josy, I admire your quick thinking and determination in those situations.
Very dangerous situations too so all credit to you both.
Salman, a great thing to do, wasting no time when the lady collapsed,I felt likely the same when my Grandmother collapsed while out with me that it was really serious.
Ben,I loved your Sheep experience, I think dialling 999 would have got far quicker action to deal with the problem and avert possibly a real disaster too happening.
It is amazing just how much we learn from other members on a thread like this.
