A US company has launched a breast milk-flavoured lollipop.

Texas-based Lollyphile has created the lollipops to be enjoyed by children and adults, the Daily Mail reports.

Rather than using actual breast milk, company founder Jason Darling decided to capture the "satisfying flavour".

Darling noted that friends' babies were instantly calmed by breast milk and decided to create a confectionery product that contained 'hints of sweet almond with a creamy base'.

He said: "People either think it's hilarious, neat, or gross. To the latter I ask: why is human milk gross but cow milk isn't?"

Despite some criticism, the lollipops have already generated thousands of dollars in orders.

The Lollyphile website shows a picture of a toddler sampling the lollipop, with the caption: "These lollipops won't bring back childhood memory; they'll bring up animal instinct. Quite possibly the most inherently satisfying flavour of all time."

Despite the breast milk taste, the lollipops are actually vegan and made from sugar, corn syrup and other natural flavours.

They lollipops are priced at $10 (£6.39) for four.

Oh, lovely. I actually thought it was real breast milk at first and wondered how they would have got so much.

I'm adopted, so I never tasted breast milk, and I don't plan on starting now.

I remember reading something not that long ago that children who didn't breast feed are more intelligent and develop more quickly. I forget where I read it though, I might be making it up.

You are, it's babies who are breast fed that have the best start.
They are actually an excellent idea:)
