Several people have been airlifted to hospital after an amphibious tourist craft sank in Liverpool's Albert Dock.

Coastguards say more than 30 passengers were plunged into the water when the vehicle went down just before 16:00 BST.

The Yellow Duckmarine tour company takes tourists around Liverpool by land and water in amphibious vehicles.

North West Air Ambulance said it was taking passengers away from the scene.

A Yellow Duckmarine craft also sank on 31 March. No one was injured.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have ridden a "Yellow Duckmarine" on the River Mersey as part of the Diamond Jubilee tour on Merseyside.

The royal couple took a trip on the amphibious craft as part of a tour of Liverpool, before visiting the city's Merseyside Maritime Museum.

I suspect their Amphibious status will have to be revoked as this was simply a land vehicle sinking in water...!!!

MAYOR of Liverpool Joe Anderson has called for the Yellow Duckmarine fleet never to be allowed back into the water after the latest dramatic sinking of one of the craft.

He said it was a “no-brainer” that the ‘Wacker Quackers’ should be grounded for good following the second incident in this year.

He told the ECHO his “heart had been in his mouth” as he was receiving updates from the police throughout the emergency, which started after the craft began to rapidly submerge within seconds of entering the water at around 3.55pm on Saturday afternoon.

The firm that runs amphibious vehicle tours in Liverpool has gone into administration nearly a week after one of its craft sank in Albert Dock.

Hale-based Milner Boardman has been appointed as administrator for Pearlwild Limited, which runs the Yellow Duckmarine attraction.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has withdrawn its certification on all of the firm's four vessels.

Pearlwild said on Tuesday it believed debris in the water resulted in "severe damage to the hull" of the vessel, which was one of a fleet of DUKW vehicles, the craft used in the D-Day landings.
