What a shame, remember alias Smith and Jones it was never my favorite comedy show but they were very popular for a long time.

The fact that you have to point him out in the photograph makes me feel very old

This.

And I have to say, I never found him funny either, but he's from a legendary generation of comedy and 60 is horrifically young :(

I thught alas smith and jones was complete and utter genius
I also loved not the nine oclock news (which he co wrote) and colins sandwich (which he wrote)
hes done a heck of a lot of work, directing several movies including Bean...morons from outer space...etc he starred in 40 odd tv shows and movies as an actor/comedian....produced loads of stuff including the ali g show as he set up talkback productions which he and john Lloyd sold for £62 million.....producer editor writer director star comedian....also a wonderful story teller and raconteur....what a genius of a bloke and a lovely man

he always seemed to suffer with his weight sadly and maybe he over-worked who knows, but for me he will ultimately be remembered for the magical chemistry between him and griff rhys jones....thanks for the joy mel you were great xxx

I'm just glad there are people on here who are old enough to remember his stuff. Yesterday someone commented on a thread that wasn't even born in 2003. Was starting to feel a little Garry Glitterish to be honest.

:joker: you're joking?! To be honest I don't know of anyone THAT young on the forum, but if there is, they shouldn't be... It makes me uncomfortable too.

Well what I said wasn't entirely accurate, but considering that I was 24 in 2003 it made me a little uncomfortable.

FYI you commented! :joker:

It appears he was not well
But kept it out of the Press/Media

His Former Producer mate J.Lolyd (speaking on the news)
said he had got better over so many things before,
so those that knew him did not think
it would end like this.
