I think it's a dominoes effect. After the first news reports of the complaints - more people complained. And now it's topped 2000, even more people are gonna complain

well they are making profit as well...and I think they thought that they had to give some to the charity because then "less people would complain because their money is going to the charity"

If they don't like the twist then they dont have to watch it!!

That is what BB is about!

Mike

I wonder how they react to the complaints because surely they must have been expecting it with this twist.

it aint that bad, the housemates need to get a task by imp big brother and be more lively and stuff

Mike
07-08-2006, 11:07 PM
It's bad for some people who spend big money week in week out evicting the housemates they want out, personally i'm ok because i don't tend to spend much voting however other people will be feeling completely different.

GlitterEyes

To be honest I don't think people are that annoyed, I don't see many people turning off their tv and stop watching the show. That is where it would hit big brother not by complaining.

krissybabe06
07-08-2006, 11:24 PM
aye kill big brother for it!!! luckily i dont vote because my telephone has a code on and i cant ring 9011 numbers but i wish i could to help charity!¬

Mike

Your right in what your saying GE, they might be receiving all these complaints but these people will still continue to watch the show whatever happens and the producers know that as well.

Bubs
07-08-2006, 11:31 PM
I suppose I would be annoyed if I had spent alot of money voting out someone and they could possibly go back in but the only person that I have spent a faor bit voting to evict isn't in the running so I ain't all that bothered, plus as people have said proceeds are going to charity so why they are so bothered I will never know and just because whichever housemate goes back still has the capability to win doesn't mean they will does it I mean I find that very unlikely anyway and these people complaining to have more common sense to realise that too!!

GlitterEyes
07-08-2006, 11:31 PM
Plus the whole "charity" angle it all sounds good but I tend to think that is just a way of sounding the public out and saying gwoon...vote...it IS for charity, they are trying to guilt us into voting.

Lauren
07-08-2006, 11:34 PM
If the whole of the 50p had gone to BB, MUCH more would be complaining. The fact they're giving 36p to charity is just to soften the blow.

Diablo
07-08-2006, 11:35 PM
I think these complainers will continue to vote anyway.. If the twist has upset them enough to make them complain, they should learn from it and stop voting altoghether..but they probably will be voting at the next evicition and the final. I think this twist is good for the show and I don't care about my past votes. If they are going to moan because BB introduces twists like these then they should maybe watch a different programme. These twists make it better IMO

Big bro has taken a big chance on doing this twist. It could effect next years voting figures. People might not vote next year because they will think "whats the point in my voting them out when they could come back in".

krissybabe06
08-08-2006, 09:57 AM
i think the twist was done due to the fact of so many people being shocked and gyutted about people going and there was a lot of complaints about nikki going out of the whole house and perhaps they thought give them a chance to bring them back and at the same time theyre making money for charity aswell, i dont think its such a bad task at all

BIG Brother was in crisis last night as bosses tried desperately to stave off national outrage at the phoneline rip-off scandal.

More than 1,800 fuming fans had called to complain over plans to vote evicted housemates back into the TV house via “greedy” premium rate lines.

Media watchdog Ofcom took 1,200 calls from viewers who had already paid 50p per call to EVICT the ten contestants now eligible to return and win the show’s £100,000 prize.

Another 500 called Channel 4 to complain and premium-rate phoneline watchdog ICSTIS had 145 calls.

Viewers claim the twist flouts Ofcom rules, which state a TV competition “should be conducted fairly, prizes should be described accurately and rules should be clear and appropriately made known”.

Sun reader Johnny Halliday, who called himself an EX-Big Brother fan, said: “Surely this must be the biggest rip-off of all time.

“First the public are asked to spend a fortune phoning in to evict people from the BB house.

“Then Big Brother wants us to spend more money voting them back into the house next door.

“No doubt we will then have to phone in again to possibly evict the person from the main house we’ve already paid to evict. How stupid do they think we are?” Many of BB’s five million viewers vote each week — netting C4 a fortune.

The channel and producer Endemol pocket about 26p from every normal call, with 10p split among charities Shelter, the Teenage Cancer Trust, and housemates’ chosen charities.

The rest goes to the phone company and on VAT and costs. Viewers are now voting to put four housemates into the secret house tonight. A total of 36p from each of these calls goes to charity, with the rest taken by VAT and costs.

Remaining contestants will be told of the ruse on Friday, when they must pick one of their former housemates to re-enter the main house.

Among those who may return are show darling Nikki whose early exit shocked show makers. Other favourites are Mikey and Grace, who smooched in London’s Soho yesterday.

But as the lovestruck pair rekindled their romance, fed-up viewers flooded The Sun’s switchboard.

Reader Claire Jackson said: “I’ve been robbed. I spent money to evict housemates I didn’t want to win.”

Cheryl Duerden said: “It’s a gross misrepresentation of the show’s advertised intention — ‘Who goes, you decide’. I won’t watch it again.” Ofcom confirmed it was checking if C4 had broken the programme code.

If a breach is found, the watchdog can dish out a number of punishments, including significant fines.

But a BB spokeswoman said: “This vote is already proving one of the most popular this series. Almost £150,000 has been raised so far for charity from this vote alone.

“All profits from the vote to choose the four evicted housemates will be donated to charity.”

The public are right to complain - they have spent money voting these people out, only to be told that they are going back in anyway. What the public want seems to have no bearing whatsoever on what Big Brother do any more.

I think the charity has got sod all to do with BB's decision. It's all about ratings. They've only ever brought an housemate back in once before - BB4 when Jon Tickle was brought back in. At the time, ratings for BB4 were very low and loads of people had been saying it was boring, and putting Jon back in was a transparent attempt to make it better - which is exactly what this is.

You can send a donation to any charity by cheque, or usually online as well. You can also make charitable donations by direct debit every month.

I couldnt care less whos complaining. its a brilliant twist that will save a dying show.

Why are these people getting so irate. Those that have moaned that theyve spent a fortune on voting people out. How much have they really spent. A fiver tops. If anyone has spent more than that they must be very sad individuals. its only a game show.

They will obviously learn from this years mistake, but I dont think any ammount of complaints will stop it happening now.

I don't think it's about the money - or not in all cases. The point is that BB is all about the public deciding who goes - clearly the public's decision is of no importance whatsoever to the program makers.

If people dont like the twist then dont vote & dont watch. BB has the right to change the rules at any time and he has. Im happy to just go with the flow.

Ruth

BB has the right to change the rules for the housemates as often as he wants. But changing the rules for the viewers is a different matter altogether.

Exactly. The moment they change the rules for the whole game, it becomes different and almost seems pointless to me. Check out this thread:

O.K., so the profits raised from voting 4 HM's into the secret house go to charity, but what about the final week when the person (lets just say Nikki) that ultimately goes into the main house is eligible to win? Will those lovely, charitable people that is Big Brother, donate all Nikki's 'vote to win Big Brother' profits to charity as well? I think not.
The greedy barstewards will keep that to themselves.

All this charity nonsense..............long term BB will still gain money, because there is another person we will have to evict on final night, possibly Weds or Thurs.

Yes, it's great charity gets the money, but with an extra person to evict in the final week, that's only going to make Endemol earn more money, but people don't look at the long term.

If people want to give money to charity, give direct.

Exactly. Nobody should be under the illusion that BB are giving the money to charity out of the goodness of their hearts. They give the money to charity - and make sure that everybody knows about it - in order to get more people to vote, which makes more money for them.

As ITH says, if you want to give to charity, give direct to the charity of your choice.

Besides which, whether or not they are giving money to charity is not the issue here - it is just a flimsy defence for BB's desperate behaviour. To pull the wool over the housemate's eyes is one thing - to try and pull it over the viewers' eyes is quite another.

You do know that this is a forum for discussing Big Brother? So if people want to discuss Big Brother and it's latest twists, why don't you get over it?

it's not a question of not voting - it's a question of those people who have already voted feeling that their votes have been for nothing.
