Choose to go to any era in a time machine, which would you choose (can be as little as a few months back)?

Oh goodness....do I have to choose a single one? Can't I buy a season ticket and visit lots?

I'd love to visit the kingdom of Elmet, one of the last independent British kingdom to be absorbed into anglo-saxon England. Just because there's something quite romantic about little Elmet ( known to Bede as the Forest of Elmet). And they had some belting dynastic struggles. I live in the West Ridings of Yorkshire, which is more or less where it was.

I'd also like to see Harold Godwinson's shortlived royal court.

I've always been fascinated by the anglo-saxons. The period during which England became a defined country.

I'd then like to skip forward to the late eighteenth or very early nineteenth century and spend a little time in a British army camp, maybe out in Portugal, or see the ill-fated March to Corunna.

I'd kind of like to sit in on a General Court Martial, though the reality wouldbe very upsetting. I work a lot with GCM records, and it would be so interesting to see and hear some of the men whose words have been recorded.

I'd definitely like to have a drink with Tom Paine. Though I suspect he'd find the idea of a jovial pint with a woman rather a strange thing to do.

There are so many. So hard to select just one.

I'd go back to my childhood. No real worries or responsibilities. Playing out on long summer nights and just a general warm, secure feeling about life.
